I've used Safety Kut since 1997. I like the smooth texture, the economical price ($1.30US for the 4X6" block), the 4X6" size (or larger - the "big sheet" is 18x26") and I can order it online. One of my letterbox stamps has been out in the wild since 2002 (hot summers, sub-freezing winters) and it's still in great shape. I really like the stuff and was curious why more people haven't tried it.
Nasco has recently come out with "Softoleum" a thinner, 1/4" thick version of the standard 3/8" Safety-Kut™ block printing and stamp making material. It comes in a deep grey color. I don't really care for this product, it's too soft for me.

No, it's not. I have a piece of Softoleum here, bought it myself from Nasco
OK. Then maybe it's this Softoleum product on the Currys website: http://www.currys.com/printmaking/prodinfo.asp?SubcatID=4350&catID=15
It's 3/8" thick. Perhaps draygonflies can send a small chunk to Mama Cache for comparison.
