Quote ...I haven't worked with this product personally, but here's my gut feeling. It's a school grade material designed for young (elementary) students, so it's probably pretty hardy for the short term. My concern would be that, as it's so cheap, it's made for short term use, not for long time in extreme temperature/weather conditions. However, you could always contact the company and see what they say.

I've used Safety Kut since 1997. I like the smooth texture, the economical price ($1.30US for the 4X6" block), the 4X6" size (or larger - the "big sheet" is 18x26") and I can order it online. One of my letterbox stamps has been out in the wild since 2002 (hot summers, sub-freezing winters) and it's still in great shape. I really like the stuff and was curious why more people haven't tried it.

Nasco has recently come out with "Softoleum" a thinner, 1/4" thick version of the standard 3/8" Safety-Kut™ block printing and stamp making material. It comes in a deep grey color. I don't really care for this product, it's too soft for me.

Quote Finally identified this mystery gray stuff I've been getting down on the beach.... it's Safety Kut.

Quote No, it's not. Safety-Kut is 3/8" thick, this stuff is only 1/4" thick. Also, I think Safety-Kut is white, this stuff is gray.

The thinner grey stuff is Softoleum http://www.enasco.com/ProductDetail.do?sku=9719193(B)
The thicker whitish stuff is Safety-Kut http://www.enasco.com/ProductDetail.do?sku=9704655

No, it's not. I have a piece of Softoleum here, bought it myself from Nasco

OK. Then maybe it's this Softoleum product on the Currys website: http://www.currys.com/printmaking/prodinfo.asp?SubcatID=4350&catID=15
It's 3/8" thick. Perhaps draygonflies can send a small chunk to Mama Cache for comparison.
