Atlas Quest

How do I link to clues hosted on LbNA?

When you Add a letterbox at Atlas Quest, make sure you have the URL that points directly at the clue page for your specific letterbox. If you use http://www.letterboxing.org others will have to take additional steps to find your clues. The URL should look something like http://www.letterboxing.org/BoxView.asp?boxnum=13279&boxname=Beauty_School_Dropout. Be sure to use a capital B and V in BoxView since URLs are case sensitive.

The boxnum is required, but the boxname is actually optional and in rare cases, causes problems if characters are used in the box name that are invalid in URLs. Atlas Quest will check for a valid URL before accepting it, so if the URL is rejected, it is safe to remove the name of the box from the URL and just include http://www.letterboxing.org/BoxView.asp?boxnum=13279, as an example. Then only the box number will be different from box to box.

If your objective is to list your letterbox on both sites, another alternative is to host the clues on AQ and then link to AQ from LbNA. Post the clues on AQ first, and then go to the Box Details page for the box and copy the entire URL. Then go to LbNA, select "Add Planted Letterbox", type in the appropriate information, and paste the URL into the link field. Check the box that says "connect to this link automatically". You don't have to write anything in the clue field at all. You will need to know the county the box is in, something that is not included in an AQ listing.

On AQ, it is possible—and not terribly uncommon—for there to be several letterboxes in the world sharing exactly the same name. It's not possible on LbNA, though; if you try to enter a box name that's already in use, it will reject it. If this happens to a box you have already listed on AQ by that name (not to mention having planted the box in the wilderness and written the name in the log book), simply alter the name very slightly until LbNA accepts it. Putting an extra space between two words will sometimes get the job done.
