Photo Clue
The enormous carving of Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee, and Stonewall Jackson is definitely worth the effort to visit. However, the area is the typically gaudy tourist trap that includes a "scenic" railroad ride around the mountain (it's even more scenic when you use your feet--and that's free!), a laserlight show, and the thing that really makes me want to puke is the skylift to the top of Stone Mountain. Do your country a service: Protest all that by not paying for them. This is a beautiful place to visit and I can't imagine visiting the Atlanta area without at least one stop at Stone Mountain, but you'll be doing yourself a favor by getting away from those developed areas. Which, incidently, this box will require you to do. =)

There's a nice trail that goes completely around the mountain and another one that heads for the top, both of which are quite nice and avoids the tourist gaud prevelent at the front of the mountain. That's where this letterbox is hidden.

Clue

Starting at the base of the carving Stone Mountain is most famous for, hike along the Cherokee Trail (the red one) in a clockwise direction. Somewhere along this trail you'll discover a distinctive looking tree growing on the trail. It's a long, narrow tree with what looks like a scar that's only visible if you're walking along the Cherokee Trail in a clockwise direction.

Looking at the scar tree, shoot a bearing of 200°. 45 steps away is a boulder. Facing rock uphill, right-hand side bottom. Under a small rock behind a big rock.

Also, muchas gracias go out to T REX who moved the box as needed!
