Information:

Waiting on the World to Change
John Mayer

Me and all my friends
We’re all misunderstood
They say we stand for nothing
And there’s no way we ever could
Now we see everything that’s going wrong
With the world and those who lead it
We just feel like we don’t have the means
To rise above and beat it

So we keep waiting
Waiting on the world to change
We keep on waiting
Waiting on the world to change

It’s hard to beat the system
When we’re standing at a distance
So we keep waiting
Waiting on the world to change

Now, if we had the power
To bring our neighbors home from war
They would never have missed a Christmas
No more ribbons on their door
And when you trust your television
What you get is what you got
Cause when they own the information
They can bend it all they want

That’s why we’re waiting
Waiting on the world to change
We keep on waiting
Waiting on the world to change

It’s not that we don’t care,
We just know that the fight ain’t fair
So we keep waiting
Waiting on the world to change

We’re still waiting,
Waiting on the world to change
We keep on waiting
Waiting on the world to change
One day our generation
Is gonna rule the population

So we keep waiting
Waiting on the world to change
No we keep waiting
Waiting on the world to change

Directions:

Park at the parking lot for the City of Santa Fe Open Space Trailhead, at the intersection of Cerro Gordo and Upper Canyon Rd. (Lot is open 7am to 7pm). Study the map in the parking lot. Your destination is near #34 on the map.

Clues:

Walk to far end of parking area and enter Santa Fe Canyon Preserve through the green gate. Turn right at the first trail intersection, following the sign to Dale Ball trail and go through fence. Soon you will cross Upper Canyon Rd. and go through another green gate, following trail signs up hill. After climbing for about .7 of a mile, you will be on top of a saddle at trail junction #30. Continue on to junction #31. At this intersection, study the map and continue on trail to junction #34. This part of the trail has a few steep climbs and series of switchbacks, but you can stop along the way and enjoy some great views. Once you arrive at the marker for junction #34 you will take the trail at 34 degrees heading uphill behind the sign.. Take approximately 215 steps up this trail. You should be standing just below a large grouping of rocks. If you are in the right spot you should see a dead tree with a split rock in front of it due west, and at 50 degrees you should see another dead tree. Now find a small juniper growing out of the rocks with a stump to its left at 320 degrees. Take six steps up to juniper. There is a large boulder to the right of the juniper and a smaller boulder just below the larger boulder. Look under the small boulder for a small rock with lichen on one end of it. The box is hidden under here. Take the time to walk around the top for some incredible views!

Hike Length: 4.0 miles
Elevation Gain: 1200 feet

Special Note:

I have created maps and lists for boxes in the Santa Fe Area, in the Alphabetical New Mexico Series and a few other areas. You can access all of these by going to Maps and Lists for Santa Fe Area and Alphabetical New Mexico Series. Please be advised that I don’t get to check up on them on a regular basis. So, make sure you look at the clues to see if the box is ACTIVE, UNKNOWN, UNAVAILABLE, or RETIRED.
