After a rogue squirel ate through the box of "Caduceus" I pulled the box for some time. The nasty critter ate through several layers of box, bag, and journal. Unfortunately, I lost several lovely stamps. I invite any letterboxers who stamped into "Caduceus" to come and restamp in "Caduceus 2" - I've added a small bonus stamp for your trouble.

History:
A caduceus is a winged staff with two snakes wrapped around it. The symbol's origins are thought to date to as early as 2600 BC in Mesopotamia, and there are several references to a caduceus-like symbol in the Bible, namely in Numbers 21:4–9, and 2 Kings 18:4. During the Exodus, Moses was instructed by God to fashion a pole upon which he was to position a serpent made of bronze. According to Walter Friedlander, in The Golden Wand of Medicine: A History of the Caduceus Symbol in Medicine, a connection with medicine can be traced back to the 16th and 17th centuries, when the caduceus had been used by printers because it was the staff of Hermes (Mercury) the messenger god, the divine deliverer of information. In the 19th century, a medical publisher used the symbol on its texts, and thereby began the association of the caduceus with medicine. In 1902, during World War I, the U.S. Army adopted the caduceus as the insignia of its Medical Corps. It has since become the common logo for those in the health profession.

Directions:
Enter the Denton Regional Medical Center campus from the main entrance (off of the I35-E service road near the corner of I35-E and Mayhill road). As you proceed past the yield sign, you will notice two buildings: one is 6 stories tall and another is 3 stories tall. It is this shorter building that we will be dealing with - the Professional Office Building (as is prominently noted at the top). This building is "V" shaped with one wing pointing generally to the south and another pointing generally to the west.

Proceed past the large blue awning and around to your left along the west wing. At the end of the building you will see a smaller parking area with a sign that indicates it is for "Outpatient Parking" this sign has an encircled "P" on it. Pull in anywhere around here and park. There is a short sidewalk that runs from this parking area directly to a door on the west-facing wall of this wing. There is a large live oak very close to the building at the end (and to the right) of this sidewalk. Under the tree there are three air conditioner fans. As you stand on the sidewalk and look to your right you will be able to see between two of the fans to a hedge. Walk between these two fans, being careful not to trip over the equipment on the ground, and look in the hedge at about 6 inches to 1 foot off the ground. There you will find Caduceus 2 and a bonus stamp.

***Warning! Please stamp-in in your car or inside the POB - there is a nice atrium there. If you are cautious, you should have no difficulty retrieving the stamp and getting away without being noticed.

As always,
