Ursus Arctos Letterbox

Planted by: daelphinus, trekkie, rnrB & trkr
On: 28 Jul 06

Location: somewhere in West Yellowstone, MT

**on-site, hand-carved stamp; bring brown ink for added stamping effect; most likely not available or available in snow conditions; maybe ½ mile to the LB on a dirt/bark trail if starting at the majestic gates, otherwise much, much longer by foot**

***Yes, I know the photo does not represent an Ursus arctos, it's just one of a couple of fellows we bumped into along a hike earlier on in the day we planted this letterbox.***

Clue: In this quaint little town, prowl your way to Grizzly Bear Park; a hop, skip & a jump away from Mr Kroc’s that sports a small revolving trout atop its northern side. From the bear, head 170* and turn right on Grizzly, passing the Pony Express, then bear left on Jellystone and another left on spouting water. Arrêt!!! Stop at the meeting place & enter its majestic gate. A small penance may be necessary in these environs.

Quoth the raven, “Veer right at the blue diamond, for kids will feel loopy here, evermore.”
Quoth the raven, “Veer left at the ‘Y’ for 160 steps, evermore.”
Quoth the raven, “Veer left at the ‘Y’ for 50 steps, evermore.”
Quoth the raven, “Veer left again until you see the raven’s mound on the right.”
(Hopefully, you brought Raven's clues with you.)
Quoth the raven, “Continue along the trail to 2 Montana-sized ant hills (which really aren’t ant hills). Climb atop the apex of the western mound from where you will spy twin 2’ tall stumps at 120* far below where ravens dare not fly. Standing between the twins, head 60* for 30 steps to a 1’ tall stump. Then another 7 steps at 120*, thru trees, to another 1’ tall stump. For beneath pine-needles, dirt & wood (in this fireprone region) on its southwestern side hibernates your Ursus arctos evermore.”

Hint: if you don’t get winded climbing atop the ant-hill, you’re not at the correct spot. ;)

Quoth the dolphin, “please let us know how this very orphaned letterbox is doing.”

Hike Length: 0.5 miles
Elevation Gain: 40 feet
