This box is missing again as of 1-2-09.

A Mountain Monogram was reported missing on October, 15, 2005. We recently went up to search for it and found it. It is now back in its original location.

This box is a short hike (probably about 1 mile roundtrip), but has great views of the city of Fort Collins and Horsetooth Reservoir. I think most kids could make it easily, although the trail is a little steep in parts. Pets are allowed, but must be on leashes. A six dollar permit is required to park in the paved parking area, but there are some free 45 minute spaces along the side of the road south of the paved area. The parking area is especially crowded in the summer. Since the box is hidden in a natural area, please stay on the trail at all times. The box is hidden so that you do not need to leave the trail to retrieve it.

Make sure to print off the clues to Ramdelt's "The Aggie" letterbox. The starting point for the clues is this box. The clues are available at http://www.letterboxing.org/BoxView.php?boxnum=15198&boxname=The_Aggie .

Drive west on the first road south of the place where rams play, noting the large letter on the hillside (as of September, 2005, this letter has not been painted in a year of two and is somewhat difficult to see). When another road intersects from the left, continue north and cross the dam. Park in the first parking/picnic area on the left side of the road.

Cross the road near the restrooms and find a trailhead near some large boulders and a section of rail fence. Walk downhill to the “house” rules sign. Read the rules and then take the trail to the south. Continue past some sections of rail fence with signs telling you not to go behind them because of fragile habitat. The trail will wind around the bottom of a ridge and then turn steeply uphill. At the top of the hill, the trail turns south again and follows the top of the ridge. Stop when you are at the top of the letter you saw before.

Follow the steep and rocky path down the south side of the letter. Stop when you are aligned with the top of the unpainted space enclosed in the middle of the letter. Look for a large, white, double-peaked rock on the north side of the path. The letterbox is hidden under smaller stones under the east side of this rock.

Please rehide this box so that it is completely covered and is not visible from either direction on the trail. We don’t want to lose it.

When you find this box, please e-mail us to let us know that you found it, since it is not as easy to check on as most. If you are a member of Atlas Quest, please log it as a find so I can see who has been there.
