We chose this spot because Te Kauwhata is home to Derek's favourite golf course, Waikare. We recommend if you are a golfer to pay a visit here, as it is truly beautiful.
Drive through the town of Te Kauwhata until you find the Waikare golf course, next to the College. Keep going out of town towards State Highway 2. There will be a road sign for a Scenic Drive (not a scenic lookout) on your right, which will take you down Waikare Rd, around Lake Waikare. Follow this road until you see a picnic table site on your right, with one upper and one lower table. Park here and follow the gravel track down until you find a large tire on your right. Move the bidi-bid plant out of the way to find your golfing memorabilia.
Once you've stamped in, please rehide the box well, and please be discreet if necessary. Also, please contact us if the box needs attention in any way.
What else to do when you visit Te Kauwhata
Of course you could visit the golf course, but if that's not your thing, possibly some wine tasting, dahling, at the Rongopai Winery (
http://www.rongopaiwines.co.nz) would take your fancy? Also nearby (right next door to the winery, how handy!) is the amazing maze 'n maize, which could be fun for all the family (open Summer only).
Regardless of what you do in Te Kauwhata after finding the box, if you are coming between October and April, we do recommend a short trip down the road to Parnassus Farm & Garden (there is a map on their website at
http://www.parnassus.co.nz). This iis a lovely farm just out of Huntly that does scrummy things with their fresh farm produce. See their website for details of their opening hours and things.
