I have to share the non-boxing day I had ;-)) This is all funny, and not a big source of frustration. I was coming home from the Table Rock gather, and had hoped to find a few traditionals on the way...

So we started out at the Carrick Creek Trail - there are several boxes there, some look to be within striking distance of my kids, who swore up and down they were ready for a hike. We get to the first box (the kids fighting the entire way), and Foxy Boy gets something in his eye, and has a total meltdown. He has finally "hit the wall" and when he hits the wall (it rarely happens) it's time to shut down. So I take them back, Foxy boy with red and crying eyes - the myriads of people we are meeting on the trail are staring at me trying to figure out why this big kid is so upset........ I stare off into the trees, the creek, anything, hoping they don't follow me to the parking lot and scribble down my license number to report to the authorities.

So I find there is what looks like a drive by on the road out. I drive to the location, pull in behind this truck. A man gets out of this truck, with a can of soda, walks over to this rock (that I'm suspecting might be important in finding this box) and sits down and stares - not at the amazing view, but at me. I sit for a minute, decide I don't want to be on the front page of the newspaper, and decide to leave.

Next driveby: It's on a trail that leads to some primative campsites (I think). I park, and I'm getting my stuff together, and reviewing the clues. Next to me a van pulls up, and a family of 6, dressed in their Sunday best (4 daughters and mom, all in dresses), get out and start *meandering* slowly down the trail........ I decide it's a sign...... and leave..............boxless.................

Yet another driveby: I pull in, and there are about 4 groups hanging out in the sun, admiring the views, near where I'm supposed to start looking. I don't even turn off the car, put it in reverse, and head home.

On the way home, I decide to stop at a rest stop where there's a box I've been meaning to get. I pull in, and leave the kids in the car, zip over and get the box. FINALLY - SUCCESS!!! As I'm putting stuff back in my backpack, a wrecker drives up, parks *directly* behind my car to hook up to a car that apparently is having mechanical difficulties (I should have warned him not to park next to me ;-)). I ease back to the car, and sit there, parked in, for 10 minutes while he's hooking up this car. Oh well, at least I got the box ;-))

Anyway, it just got to be funny how many ways that I could be foiled in letterboxing today. But we had a great gather, the weather was nice, and Baby Fox slept the whole way home ;-))

Thanks for sharing. Our adventures in LB are rarely without some sort of unexpected events. Glad you persisted.
