According to this article, J.J. Abrams will not be recasting the role of Chekov after Anton Yelchin's death. I think that's good.

P.S. Anyone else going to see Star Trek Beyond tonight?

I read that someplace else. Paramount may overrule him and pull The Other Darrin. This is an alternate universe so they don't have to keep him around, and it would probably be best to do it that way. However, if they want to replace him, have the Big Bad kill off Chekov in the first act then they don't have to replace him in subsequent movies.

Anyone else going to see Star Trek Beyond tonight?

The review from The Register (a geek news site) summarized their review as "Star Trek Beyond: An unwatchable steaming pile of tribble dung." Please let us know what you think.

I left the theater with a smile on my face. The movie was slow to really get started, but once it did, it was enjoyable. Still not really in line with Gene Roddenberry's vision, but I think that can be forgiven as this is an alternate timeline. I really liked Jaylah, and I hope she will be back in the next movie.

It's good to see that it wasn't as bad as The Register said it was.

Well, it is J.J. Abrams. He seems to like action and explosions.

Probably not. She's not going to come through Starfleet, and they don't have civilians (except some families) on this Enterprise. But it is J.J. Abrams, so they may just make up new rules.

She's not going to come through Starfleet

She got into Starfleet Academy, so it's possible.

I hadn't seen the movie so I was making an assumption.

Wesley was in Starfleet Academy 3 years, then he dropped out to pursue a more interesting path. I think they'll have forgotten about her after however many movies that will take.

Perhaps referring to the Riker and Troi's wedding scene in "Nemesis"?

Ah, you mean where he was shown for about 2 seconds and had no lines? Can you blame me for forgetting that?? Especially from that movie!

Yes, they cut all his dialogue. He actually had a scene with Picard and Beverly which you can find on the DVD/Blu-Ray or on the internet that talked about how he's returned to Starfleet, so it's considered canon. He's last known to be a lieutenant, junior grade.
