Perfect day for boxing, except for all those dang muggles....

Kirbert, it isn’t a matter of “why” but “how” or “by whom”. Halloween is not a legal holiday controlled by a government, so no individual or group have any authority to “move” it.

Halloween, thanks to the rules of historical linguistic chain shifts, is All Hallow’s Eve, followed by All Saint’s Day and All Soul’s Day. These Christian holidays have existed since the eighth century. They were the Christianization of pagan harvest festivals, such as the Celtic Samhain, but there are ancient harvest festivals celebrated in cultures all over the world.

For you to say “there’s talk of moving Halloween” is just as ridiculous as saying “there’s talk of moving Easter”. Passover begins on 15 Nisan in the Hebrew calendar, and has been celebrated for thousands of years. Easter is at the end of Passover, and has been celebrated as such at least since the Council of Nicaea.

Next you’ll be saying there’s talk of moving my birthday.

So, if we all agree to do our trick-or-treating on the last Saturday in October, there's no one who can tell us we can't?

Schrödinger's Cat = Sheldon's Dad

LOLOL!! I'm pretty sure Old Blue and I will be watching reruns of this wonderful series for the rest of our lives! We love the first 8 seasons when Sheldon was naive and socially unaware. When he turned into a grumpy pill, not so much. We figure they must have gotten other writers or maybe Jim Parsons insisted. Glad the rest of the cast remained in their original guise.

St. Marks Lighthouse

Over the past half century, lighthouses have gradually morphed from essential navigation aids to crumbling relics to treasured historical artifacts. The St. Marks Lighthouse, about an hour's drive from my house, has been inop for many years but a local group formed to resurrect it and fit it with a modern LED light -- in a replica Fresnel lens, which cost a donor a chunk of change. The original Fresnel lens is in a nearby museum.

They held a re-lighting ceremony on October 31 (Halloween), and quite a crowd showed up. All were invited to tour the restored Keeper's Residence, outfitted as a museum detailing the history of the lighthouse.

While perusing the museum, I happened upon a rubber stamp! Nobody was saying anything about it, it was just sorta laying there alongside an ink pad. Not only was it custom made, but it was *dated* -- it wasn't to commemorate the lighthouse but the *relighting* of the lighthouse. A one-day-only stamp. Didn't have my log book along, so I snatched some scratch paper and stamped it.

Interestingly, it seemed to be formed on some sort of transparent rubber.

Another dumb question. I subscribed to a you tube channel but nothing seems to happen? What is supposed to happen when I subscribe? Until now I haven't had anyone I could ask. I'm not getting any emails notifications, but it didn't ask me for my email when I subscribed, so how would it know where to send it?

Do you see a bell next to the Subscribe button?
Click on the bell. It should change to indicate you have Notifications turned on.
At the upper right corner of my screen I have an icon that turns into a drop-down menu of new videos from my subscription list.

Someone may be able to tell you how to get e-mail messages telling you there are new videos from your subscription list.

Yahoo Groups Data Being Deleted 12/14/2019
Board: Atlas Quest Announcements

Thread Board
My Summary:
In just over a month, all old posts, files, etc. created by users will be permanently deleted from all Yahoo Groups.

They outline a way you can download data through a Privacy Dashboard but I have read some mixed reviews on it. However that is better than nothing probably...

=====

Understand what's changing in Yahoo Groups
Yahoo has made the decision to no longer allow content to be uploaded to the Yahoo Groups site. Don't worry, though, Yahoo Groups is not going away and new groups can still be created.

Beginning October 28, new content won't be able to be uploaded to the site, and all previously posted content on the site will be permanently removed after December 14. Anything you want to keep will need to be downloaded by that date.

What features will go away?
Files
Polls
Links
Photos
Folders
Calendar
Database
Attachments
Conversations
Email Updates
Message Digest
Message History

What will happen to the site?
The Yahoo Groups site will continue to exist, however, all public groups will be made private or restricted. Any new group members will need to request an invite or be invited by an admin. Admins will still be able to manage various group settings, though some functionality will be limited.

What will happen on October 28?
On October 28, you will no longer be able to upload any content to the site. To share info with members of your groups, you'll continue to be able to do so via email.

How can I keep my Yahoo Groups content?
Photos and files can be saved right from the Yahoo Groups site, or you can download your data from the Privacy Dashboard.

Will I be able to use Yahoo Groups going forward?
You'll still be able to create new groups, communicate with your groups via email, and search for private groups on the site. In addition, admins will continue to have limited access to group settings and administration tools.
