Saw this post today about an App that virtually walks you through the AT.

Yeah, I saw that a couple of days ago as well.

Think I've seen something similar somewhere before...

I don't know.... there's one very significant difference between the two. As far as I can tell, their app doesn't include any photos or videos along the route. To me, that was the main feature of W4F. The maps of where you are located are secondary.

So, Walking 4 Fun currently supports 25 different trails. His app supports one! *shaking head*

But I'm a little envious that he's getting a lot of publicity out of the article while nobody knows about Walking 4 Fun!

Well, I commented the link for ya, so maybe you'll get some traffic. Maybe writing them and letting them know about it? Can't hurt. :D

I use a lot of Distress Inks, although now I like the Oxides better. I also love using Dylusions Spray Inks (gotta spray them outside on the lawn unless you want a big mess everywhere). Ken Oliver Color Bursts are great fun, and the good ol' Gelli Plate is always good for a few hours of playtime fun for me. I'm always looking for new things to try so YouTube is a great plate to explore. People are so creative!

Well, two of the accounts are mine. One is my "real" account and the other is a test account, so really just 14,101 people. ;o)

Just an FYI, on sept 3 I got this email back from deep when I inquired about receiving certificates, etc.

"Mr. and Mrs. Miles,
Mailings are completed when we have enough to create a batch mailing. This year, we have had less folks complete the ten and thus mailings are going out later. You have not been forgotten and will receive them."

We finished all of the walks in May I think....(we dont wait for boxes to be planted)

Here is is almost 2 more months later and still no word.

*sad*

This year, we have had less folks complete the ten and thus mailings are going out later.

Isn't that interesting. Very early on, I had emailed DEEP saying I was disappointed in that so many locations were repeats, and got a snippy response saying something along the lines that they chose their locations for a variety of reasons.

I've had trouble in the past getting them to even acknowledge the receipt of my photos, after months and months and multiple emails from me. When they first started the program, someone else was in charge and the responses were incredibly fast, even on a Sunday. They were polite and enthusiastic. Now, not so much.

I want to do some fall hiking, so I decided to try and get some of the Sky 2019 boxes, but I'm not doing the DEEP photos or anything. Just the boxes. Well, for the parks with CFPA trails, I'm still working on hiking those. It was gorgeous at Macedonia Brook today.

I was wondering what everyone's favorite medium was to use when making LTC's?

I have tried many different Mediums but all they ever do is showcase long DEAD swaps!

A bonus box is exactly like a regular traditional box ~ assuming you are putting the bonus clue into a traditional box, or burying the clue in the clue of a traditional box. EX-cept!
When you get to the last page of the listing - RESTRICTIONS - and you look down near the bottom of those options.
A Dependency is what you want. There's a place to put the AQ number of the 'parent' box - the box you want people to find before they can see the bonus box's existence.
So before you start listing the bonus box, you need to have listed the 'parent' box, and have it's AQ# handy.
Last tip: you will be able to see the bonus box's listing, but no one else will see it, so it will be a secret known only to those who find your 'parent' box, which is pretty much what a bonus box is ~ shh-hh

Another tip: You generally don't generally give a clue online for the bonus box, though you can. You may want to list the real clue so that they can find it after they have found the parent box, but they have to make two trips because they usually don't log it in the field. This also avoids them having to find the clue where you hid it in the parent box.

My preferred medium...
I enjoy the variety. The only consistent medium, which is not to say that it is my favorite, would be Copic markers. The variety is, I think, why I've been able to stick with LTCs for so long.

The AQ posted "clue" for my bonus boxes usually gives background info on the carve. For example, I have a bonus box with an image of a anime character - if the finder doesn't know who it is, they can read my "clue" (actually, comments) and gain some insight.

I have a custom-made stamp and a very nice container I would love to have planted in Savanah. This is in honor of The Girl Scouts. I LOVED being in scouts. I no longer live in GA and want to find the perfect spot for this plant. Prefer for it to be indoors. I wish I knew how to post a picture of the stamp and box on here. If you are willing to take this on for me, please drop me a note with your thoughts as to where you could plant it. Will send you a picture of the stamp and container via text or email. Thanks.
