Where can I get Sistema boxes inexpensively down here? I'm on the lookout for all new stores, since all of the places I used to shop up north haven't made it to FL yet.

Thanks!

According to some old clues, it's located very close to the junction of the Mattatuck and Mohawk Trails.

Thanks. I was just thinking of that actually. I only have the new one, but will check tonight.

There are a few clues that reference it, incl The Four Directions, which has it as a starting point. So I want to get it right.

I have a similar box - the first one I ever planted back in 2005: Box #6564. You have to drive through the creek 14 times. As you said, it's the drive to the drive-by that is the adventure!

Very often when I'm planting a letterbox, if there is room, I will leave one of my LTCs as as a first finder prize. It's really cool being the first finder!!!

I've read you can do that, but it sounds like a lot of work and planning compared to just spraying your clothes and gear as needed

I know it's more work than I'm willing to do.

Do you saturate the clothes with the spray and let them dry? Or just cover the whole area and let dry....the ones you do beforehand I mean?

I've always shied away from the permethrin on anything but pants, socks and boots. I've always worried about sweating. I always wear a baseball cap when I box but I sweat a lot on my head so I worry about the permethrin on my hat. In the summer my hair is WET under my hat but I'd rather wear the cap than not.

But I guess if you are just spraying the outside?

Correct, I'm just doing a light spray on the outside in most cases. Some of it still gets through to the inside. Boots I'll soak a bit more. It might not last the full month or six weeks like a soaking will, but so far whenever I've sprayed my clothes and gear like this I've never picked up a tick. The soaking would be tough for me because I'm outside nearly every day in tick areas and would need to treat a lot of different outfits. I've worn some of the professionally treated clothing, but I'm here to tell you that stuff wears off at some point, because I have gotten ticks on the Insect Shield clothing that had been washed many times. I once had a tick I found crawling around on the worn Insect Shield clothing and put it on another piece of clothing that I had sprayed lightly earlier in the day. It curled up and dropped off right away.

Ah, I new there was a reason you were pushing for Red

Screwing up the clues to my own boxes. I have an Irish box at a spot that originally had both orange and white blazes, and I was able to refer to the Irish colors. And now the blazes are blue and red. So American Irish or what?

I have a couple of the pretreated tops that LLBean sells but I have never trusted them to actually work so I don't rely on them. But the long sleeved ones are a good weight for layering so I like them just for that.

I like the prospect of finding a box of yours, but I read the clue. That is NOT one I would try in my car.

Less than a week until the tax deadline. Is everyone ready?

Taxes can be easy. Or can it? But it is going to become more difficult.

We currently have forty-eight people (adults and children) signed up and eighteen maybes. Considering that people sign up and do not show up, that means that we could have anywhere from twenty to seventy people arrive today. Haha.

Thankfully, I do have someone coming to help me walk groups through the boxing. If ANYBODY else would like to show up and help, please do! The event is at Bellingham Park in Mooresville, NC, at 10:00 this morning.

Also, pray for us, please. 😊 It will all go well, right?

Since we're on the general "Permethrin" topic...

Even though I was gifted some of it to use on my clothes, I've been too nervous to try it out because CATS. I have two indoor and two outdoor cats that could easily get onto my clothes, no matter where in the house, garage, etc. I leave them. In fact, these cats specifically seek out my clothes to cuddle with them.

Any ideas or advice about application, use, etc. is welcome. I'm tired of getting covered with ticks, but am unwilling to risk my kitties' lives.

Permethrin is only harmful to cats while it is wet. Once it dries it is safe.
