The photos rotate every day or so.
Not sure of the schedule, I just appreciate them as they come.

Choi could probably tell you if the photos are in an accessible file somewhere in LbNA.

So far, the photo of the whale tails, "Reverence" is my favorite.

I always thought NEARBY meant within a very short walk. What do others think??

Nearby is relative. There are places in the western US where 30 miles down the road is still the middle of no where. My wife and I stayed at a KOA once outside of Chugwater, Wyoming. Turns out that it was on the property of a large ranch, west of town. From the gate at the edge of town to the ranch house was at least 15 miles of dirt road. Interesting side note - 5 miles along that dirt road was this strange square plot of ground with high fencing and light towers and surveillance cameras. The sign on the fence read something like this..."The base commander has determined that the use of deadly force is justified in defending this property."

The longest bonus I found was Mission: Impossible, half the stamp was in Redding, the other half in Wallingford.

That site was a Minuteman nuclear missile silo. It is abandoned now but I think it was still active when we were there over 30 years ago. Now that I think about it, that would be an excellent place for a letterbox except for it being on private property.

I told him the name of the bonus box and said he could find the clues by checking that box on AQ now that he'd found the parentbox.

Interesting. I’ve never encountered a bonus box with the clue posted on AQ, and I don’t know anyone who logs finds in real time, as they go, and then searches for any boxes that show up, dependent on that find. I enjoy examining the logbook and container, and anything associated with it, hoping to discover a clue to a bonus “nearby” while I am still in the area. But I’m not going to spend time logging finds and searching AQ, when I can be enjoying my hike, the views, or the interesting locations.

and so he was still able to score the bonus box. There were so many chances for this to have gone wrong.

Very cool! And it sounds like a classic lost sailor story. Thanks for sharing.

The clues I leave on AQ are a back up to the clues for the bonus box I leave in the parentbox. That way a finder doesn't have to copy the clues in the parentbox--or take a picture of them. Also, if I put the clues on AQ I don't forget what they are and lose the bonus box if the parentbox goes missing--which has happened to me.

Well there are some in Kissimmee and surrounding areas ... just read the comments before going for them. We did some back in April and one of them had a homeless camp at it.

Not only a homeless camp but the property is posted as private property now. We didn't see the private property signs until we were going back to our car, it was laying in the ground, so I mentioned it in my comments when I logged my find and the owner did not approve the comment.

Oh, well that makes more sense to me - the bonus clue IS in the original box somewhere . . .
I also keep the clue on the bonus box listing, but it's in the notes. I don't want anyone to stumble across them by accident, and I don't want to lose them either.

I tend to forget to look for a bonus box clue in the container but the ones I have found have been listed on AQ. Once you log the the so called parent box you can see the bonus box in the planter's logbook and then log that.

But I’m not going to spend time logging finds and searching AQ,

I don't do that either. I don't log finds until I get home.

I tend to log that way too, but seeing this discussion I may just change how I do it. At least then I can see that I've missed a bonus box while I'm still in the field.

I know! And he did letters. So if a 13-year-old can do it, I guess we should stop freaking out about them. Kids are so awesome.

Actually, it was only their security team that talked to me. They preferred to leave "legal" out of it if it wasn't necessary. Which I preferred too. *nodding* =)

Hello!

Echo and Stitches from Longview are coming from Texas and we are not camping but are staying in a Airbnb about 20 mins away.
We will arrive in Boston mid afternoon on the 8th and depart on the afternoon of the 15th.
Since we wont have a camp site could we borrow chairs from someone to set up for our personal stamps. Also where would you suggest that we put them.
Is there a place specifically for day people like us?

Another question does the camp lock its gates at night so if we wanted to stay till evening could we get out?

We so excited to be coming and can't wait to see some face from the Oct. event.
See ya soon, Echo (Ann Grimes)

Okay!! The swap is as filled as it is going to be with the previous participants. I released the "limited" and hope for new faces this time around.

If you question ANYTHING just ask. I am pretty crazy and don't mind questions that you may think are silly or embarrassing to ask. :-) And this series is really a little out of the box so... ;-)

I had a box containing the bonus clue melt in a brush fire. Luckily, I had the clue to the bonus box in my BB notes so that I could find it (it survived the fire).

Since I have started using my smartphone while letterboxing I usually log online right at the box and then check right then and there for the next nearest box, as long as I have cell signal. While on road trips thru areas I am not familiar with I love the feature of Clue Tracker that links in Google Maps with the box's location to route me right to the nearest road to the box. It is not always the best route and the box's location might not be accurately listed in AQ or LbNA but it usually is good enough to show me an efficient route to find the box.

That is one ***HUGE*** piece of linoleum! Not that I want to get that much carving material, but where would one get a piece that large?

I could get you a piece of Tan-Z Kut that's 4' x 60', if you'd like.

In the meantime, if you want to go just a little bit large, I currently have a garage full of 12" x 54" sheets. Shipping it might be a challenge, though! :)
