I heavily consider the carve, which is the hardest part of creating a card for me. Once I have carved my image, I think I average two or three different card designs before I settle into the one that "works". I'll have to say that occasionally I create a card that is a pretty good match to my original vision, but more often than not my card morphs several times before it is finished. I just fiinished a set that I made 4 different backgrounds for, and ended up circling back to the original! I don't consider that experience a waste of time or resources though it was yet another learning experience
As a side note to this question, it was mentioned that sometimes it could take a few weeks to come up with an idea or concept for the card layout. I have to say that when people post trackers that have 1 month or less for a due date, it's too much pressure for me. I need to have time to pace my work and move from step to step in a relaxed way that works with my creative ability. I have noticed that when I do something in a hurry, it's not my best work and I also tend to make more prototypes than when I am a given the chance to think it out thoroughly.

Hope I'm remembering this correctly:

Louis Armstrong once recorded a song in the studio. Then he and his band re-recorded it again and again and again trying to get it just right. After 100 recordings, they decided the first one was the best and used it on the album.

That is my perspective also. I work slowly, and enjoy the process as I work. It’s relaxing for me. The day I find it stressful, rushed, and no longer enjoyable, is the day I’ll hang up my gouge and markers and be done.

Just spent all morning combing over all my new ltcs, getting all my finds logged in aq, can't figure out why my aq Number of ltcs will not match how many I have...two of them come up as "postal" and I have in fact logged them. Also, I have one that doesn't have an aq Number. It is her diviness by waves and waterfalls. Its a Bette midler mermaid. Any help?

I don’t have a specific answer for you but I’ve found you can get better responses to things like this by posting questions directly to the tracker itself.

Welcome to LTCs!

I do this too, but if I have too much time I tend to wander away and get lost in thought, put it aside as i ponder, forget about it a while, then I am rushed as the due date is tomorrow.

I need a good balance of thinking time and a deadline. :)

You like glitter?

I know, ultimately the segments with porch pirates were admitted fakes, but the actual glitter bomb is real.

I just posted another message, and I wanted to do a spoiler tag. I forgot how to do it so I checked the Markup Help. It wasn't there, so I made an educated guess.

It worked!

But it would be nice to have that this tag documented on that page.

carving medium question
Board: Stamp Carving and Mounting
Jan 14, 2019 9:36pm
Thread Board
We had to leave the hobby for the better part of 6 years due to "life stuff" and we are now getting back in to it. I want to carve a stamp...I looked in my stash and found 5 kinds of carving materials marked as follows:
1. Mystery C
2. NZ
3. B
4. OZ
5. one slab unmarked but very shiny on both sides.

Anybody remember if any of these are any good? Which one is best?

Or should I buy some new stuff.....and if so, what's the best right now?

Thanks for your help. QM

Welcome back!!

If the "B" is PZKUT - then that is the best piece you have :)

OZ is very firm, but keeps good detail.
NZ a lower level OZ, but a number of people liked it.
Mystery C - I found very stretchy if it is the same stuff you have.
Very shiny on both sides, sounds like OZ to me, but maybe someone else knows that one.

You MUST buy new... and send all your old stuff to me right away... lol

Depending on your hand strength - and carving style... they will still be good to carve on. But they will all feel different when carving them. And then - what Jeff said :)

I think the shiny one is Firmcut. I personally hated the stuff. Like the name implies, it felt like I was carving a brick. OZ was nice, but I could never get a great transfer like I do onto Pink. I think NZ is the one where the gouge lines didn't want to pop out, had to end a cut by starting at the end and meeting in the middle to get a clean line.

Both OZ and PZ had a "B" grade. If it's OZ just use it. If you bought PZ, put it on ebay and it will fund your carving for quite awhile!
