Mark and Sue Pepe have planted a ton of letterboxes in the Mt Snow, Vermont area (about 2 hrs north of CT). But if there's enuf snow for good skiing at Mt Snow, there's also enuf snow to cover up the trails and the letterboxes really well. There are a few indoor boxes in the area, and lodges, but no winter cabins that I know of. If anyone is in that area during winter holiday weeks, look for "SnowBoxing" and come say hello.

Thanks for the bagel offer! My flight has a 2 hour stopover at JFK! Not driving this trip. I've been advised that Cryptex! has previously made it's way through Maine, Connecticut, and Virginia. Don't think it's been to Long Island yet....

especially your friend.

Thank you so much. She's back home again and the fever has lessened but she still has some infections. I think her biggest problem at this point is that she is frustrated with how slowly her body is recovering, slower than expected.

I totally cannot wait for August. :-) As soon as I have the $ after the first of the year I'm booking my site. It's a great birthday & AQ ann. gift to myself. WOO HOO!

Besides the letterboxing peeps I've met have been totally AWESOME & why wouldn't anyone want to spend time with them. :-)

Wish I realized this back in May when I was there for Tough Mudder. I couldn't taken a break from the course to do some letterboxing! ;)

OK, I never thought that I would be carving a vampire from the twilight series. Anyone know how to make a very subtle sparkle/glitter/shimmer effect?

Make-up and hairspray! Just like in the movies!

I used real make-up (powders) to color in a portrait stamp and sprayed a bit of hairspray to make it stay. I know there are other "crafty" type products... but this way was lots of fun and cheaper!

SWEET! Were you poking around on Deviant art?

And since I haven't been to be helpful, some of the scrapbooking chalks are sparkly. I think Fluffy's idea would work as well. But the scrapbooking chalks come in sets with lots of colors and make a nice addition to ltcs in general.

So..... my fellow Albertans. I have a challenge for you. I moved from Ontario where each year they celebrate a winter Plant a Letterbox Day to encourage the planting of winter friendly letterboxes. While you might not feel like getting out there in -20 weather, we have plenty of chinook days where an outing would be much welcomed. So.... winter friendly boxes are those that are NOT buried under a pile of logs frozen beneath a pile of snow. Think.... hanging in trees, stuck under a park bench or even an indoor box (or boxes). The day is FEB 2, Groundhog Day.

So... when you have 2 weeks off over the holidays with nothing to do (ha! ha!!), think about getting out your carving tools and getting started. Plan to launch your APAL2012 Box (pronounced like apple) on February 2. (You can plant it earlier and then just list on the 2nd). Let's see how many winter friendly boxes we can come up with.

BTW... when you post your box, don't forget to use the winter-friendly (that's the snowflake) icon, so we all know we can rush out and get it on one of those nice Feb/March days.

Have you ever tried the VersaMark Dazzle ink pads? Quoting from the back of the ink pad it says "Use on dark papers for a subtle sparkling image"....there are only the two colors, tho. Frost and Champagne. But they are also used well for embossing, so it wouldn't be a waste to purchase as they can be used in many different ways....
