OOOH DP--I had a Siamese scare the bejeebies out of me when I was babysitting long ago! I still remember his name was Jasper. I guess that soured me on Siamese...they are cool looking cats though. I hear that they are pretty talkative too. I need to meet one in person to change my opinion! Terrio

I had one as a teenager. They are very talkative, they even seem to "respond" when you talk to them. I used to ask my cat what he wanted to eat, and one time a friend swore he said "TUNAAA!" in response to my question. :) Siamese kittens start off light colored and their colored points get darker and more wide spread as the years go by. When we got him, he just had a long brown area on his nose and ears that made them look ENORMOUS, so we named him Prince Charles, because there was a certain resemblance. :)

He was a very good natured cat.

I have a mix of "breeds;" Since my cats are usually the just showed up kinds! Some are long haired and some short. I used to like only long haired ones, but now short haired have moved in too! I had a Himalayan mix once that I adopted from the shelter. His name was "Grimace" not sure if it was because of his expression or because a child named him. He was a great cat. That is as close as I have come to a breed type. Terrio

Kind of like those dog videos on utube that have them saying "MaMa"! They are pretty funny...I can imagine a cat saying TUNA though! Terrio

Tuxedo Tuxedo Tuxedo
AKA short haired domestic. But i believe that kinds of cats have certain personalities. Every ginger cat i've ever known has no problem with having a baby bonnet or some sort of nonsense put on them. But a Siamese now, you wouldn't be able to get near them with something like that. And calico's especially females are the best at cuddling. Just my humble opinion on what i have noticed with cats.
Maine Coons are super smart and well Tuxedo's are THE BEST!!! *brag brag brag*

Love my ginger babies! Had a Maine Coon when I was 5, named it O'Malley after the Aristocats. She was very protective of me...hated it when I'd cry! I also had a Tonkinese who called me Mama. Actually, she'd sound out the syllables of our names and call us! She saved us from carbon monoxide poisoning once by not letting us sleep, and causing such a racket we figured it out. She was human I'm pretty sure.

Chartreuxs rock!

I had a variety of DSH for many, many years. The last one I got is a Chartreux, and I'll definitely be getting another one of these when she passes. She's hysterical - very playful, with a big smile. She fetches, she plays with anybody - no typical cat aloofness. She follows me and my sister around, because she always has to be in on whatever fun might be had. At first, I thought we just got lucky adopting this particular kitten. I didn't even know what breed she was when we got her from the cat adoption center. But then I learned what she was, and read about the breed, and apparently the Chartreux is known for being the class clown, and very affectionate. I highly recommend!

I also have a half tuxedo, half Siamese, who is my big lover-girl. She needs more cuddling and affection than her class clown sister.

Why is it so uncommon to have a male calico?
Rare happening...
I have a calico. Her mom was a orange tabby. My cats mom's parents where tabbys too. Does that mean my cats dad was a calico?

It's a long-winded genetic chromosomal explanation, but the bottom line is - male calicos are produced by a genetic mutation. That's why they're so rare. They're usually sterile too - so they don't procreate! Your cat's dad was probably not a calico.

Fact about Siamese

This was on my page-per-day Cat calendar.

I never knew this but makes perfect sense when you look at Siamese cats.

"A Siamese gets its points (dark coloring) from a mutated enzyme involved in melanin production. The heat-sensitive enzyme fails at normal body temperatures, but activates in cooler areas, resulting in darker extremities and face, which is cooled by air in the sinuses."

Kewl, huh?
