I'm soooo excited - I LOVE Halloween - because I put my Christmas decorations up on Halloween night while waiting for trick or treaters!!! It's finally here!

Even Christmas6 is having an AQversary today, you just can't get away from it.

AAAAAAIIIIIIIIiiiiiiiiiii!!!!!! Thereโ€™s no escape!

Here, take this~

I was surprised when I saw that one channel is already playing all Christmas shows.

Heck, Hallmark was showing Christmas movies in July! And those are SO deep and SO unpredictable! *sarcasm*

(but I'll still watch one every now and then -- I hang my head.)

It does seem that Thanksgiving gets lost in the shuffle . And quite frankly, it's my favorite holiday (although I readily admit that I love both Halloween & Christmas).

There really aren't many Thanksgiving movies (even by Hallmark). Why is that??

And family Halloween movies, not enough of those either. Sad!

I have 1 kid that still trick or treats. Personally I would like it moved to a Friday or Saturday due to school nights & feeling so rushed. However it is only once a year so no worries if it doesn't.

You mean the ones with a big corporation is coming to small town USA to take over (insert company)? Representative falls in love with a townie and/or the town. Turns on the mean boss, fall in love and live happily ever after.

Or the one where the widow hates Christmas, falls in love and regains Christmas magic?

Then there is the woman whose life has fallen apart coming back to her hometown to fall back in love with an old boyfriend/fiancรฉ/childhood crush.

And don't forget the pose as boyfriend/girlfriend to fool parents/bosses and they fall in love.

Or the abused wife being stalked by her ex, only to be saved in the nick of time while wearing something tragically sexy, by her new love interest whose interest she formerly discounted because he was giving her too much respectful space and who falls for her despite his best intentions not to, because they could be actual cousins.

Why?

Mostly because well, when else would October 31 be other than after October 30?

If those folks got their way, then a few other celebration days might need tweeking:
Beggars' Night
Books For Treats Day
National Caramel Apple Day
National Doorbell Day
National Knock Knock Jokes Day
Trick or Treat for UNICEF Day

Some days seem set in stone:
All Hallows Eve
Day of the Seven Billion
Samhain - (Pagan)

Some could be whenever, unless there's something specific about the date:
Magic Day
World Cities Day
World Savings Day

Kirbert, it isnโ€™t a matter of โ€œwhyโ€ but โ€œhowโ€ or โ€œby whomโ€. Halloween is not a legal holiday controlled by a government, so no individual or group have any authority to โ€œmoveโ€ it.

Halloween, thanks to the rules of historical linguistic chain shifts, is All Hallowโ€™s Eve, followed by All Saintโ€™s Day and All Soulโ€™s Day. These Christian holidays have existed since the eighth century. They were the Christianization of pagan harvest festivals, such as the Celtic Samhain, but there are ancient harvest festivals celebrated in cultures all over the world.

For you to say โ€œthereโ€™s talk of moving Halloweenโ€ is just as ridiculous as saying โ€œthereโ€™s talk of moving Easterโ€. Passover begins on 15 Nisan in the Hebrew calendar, and has been celebrated for thousands of years. Easter is at the end of Passover, and has been celebrated as such at least since the Council of Nicaea.

Next youโ€™ll be saying thereโ€™s talk of moving my birthday.

So, if we all agree to do our trick-or-treating on the last Saturday in October, there's no one who can tell us we can't?

St. Marks Lighthouse

Nov 5, 2019 12:28pm
Over the past half century, lighthouses have gradually morphed from essential navigation aids to crumbling relics to treasured historical artifacts. The St. Marks Lighthouse, about an hour's drive from my house, has been inop for many years but a local group formed to resurrect it and fit it with a modern LED light -- in a replica Fresnel lens, which cost a donor a chunk of change. The original Fresnel lens is in a nearby museum.

They held a re-lighting ceremony on October 31 (Halloween), and quite a crowd showed up. All were invited to tour the restored Keeper's Residence, outfitted as a museum detailing the history of the lighthouse.

While perusing the museum, I happened upon a rubber stamp! Nobody was saying anything about it, it was just sorta laying there alongside an ink pad. Not only was it custom made, but it was *dated* -- it wasn't to commemorate the lighthouse but the *relighting* of the lighthouse. A one-day-only stamp. Didn't have my log book along, so I snatched some scratch paper and stamped it.

Interestingly, it seemed to be formed on some sort of transparent rubber.
