In the last month I've seen a bear and a bobcat on the trail. I've also encountered a skunk sleeping on top of a letterbox.

{{Anything "funny" you might take along for those unexpected creatures? Critter repellant? Bear spray?

A slower letterboxer?

After finding a letterbox, a lovely copperhead slid and coiled up right where the box goes. I guess the box had made that spot warm. ;)

So a snake remover would have come in handy then. Either one of those long polls like a grabber, or a hunky snake remover by occupation. :D

Also a band saw, to saw away the part of the tree that has eaten the box.

Fireant poison would be a plus as well. Those pesky red bodied demons can ruin a trip really fast...

Or a small child--I've seen signs when hiking that say if you see a bear your should pick up small children. I figure that is so you have something to toss to the bear

For all the times creeks and rivers are not listed on maps, and for the one time it was, but we had to ford it to get out of the park in time before we got locked in (dead of winter, two feet of snow on the ground), this pig would like a portable bridge.

A telescoping metal backscratcher works well to fish stuff out of holes or retrieve from a high branch, doubles as a weapon to fend off critters on four legs or two. Excluding the metal fork end, it’s about the size of a pen.

Red Fox and I were letterboxing and it was chilly and very windy. We got the pouch in a very urban setting and went to the car to log in.

I had to grab some nearby napkins to wipe off the pouch, as there were lots of spider webs on it. Red Fox joked, "And there's the spider! No, just kidding."

We finished up, hid it and got in the car to continue.

I was driving and my car is an automatic but has one of the "stick shifts" in the middle of our seats. I went to shift from park and noticed something on the black shifting slot

I almost picked it up with my fingers but then realized it was a dead spider!

I opened the door and grabbed the napkins to throw it out but my wonderful husband, Red Fox, did it for me, mentioning "Wow, that was a big one!" :o

*shudder* I do NOT like spiders!

You only do that once! (My experience was in a minivan at the start of a day long cemetery boxing trip. Fortunately the little guys headed for the in floor storage bin and were vacuumed out at the end of the day. I felt creepy crawly for MONTHS afterwards and now have a hard rule about opening pouches inside the vehicle (you DON"T)

Also glad the spider was dead--I support them in the wild, not in my presence!!

Early in our letterboxing adventures, we grabbed a pouch from a tree and went back to the car to stamp in. When I opened the pouch, earwigs poured out. AAH! It was at that letterbox that I learned not to open letterboxes inside of the car. :::shudders:::

Grrly Girl,

Thanks, that's great! I shared it to my facebook group, Cheese Fun, as a Halloween idea.

I would make that -- and then demolish that sucker! Mmwaa-haa-ha!

I noticed that a couple of AQ messages I have received here lately have been in triplicate. By that I mean that it shows I received 3 of the same messages.

Any thoughts on why this is happening?

Several people have reported double emails on a regular basis. One theory is that emails are taking so long to send that maybe people are clicking again and that is creating multiple messages going out.
