Examine the entire logbook - there might be a bonus clue :)

When I read the question I came up with exactly that same idea. I was taught that on my trip to my first event, with a group of two other boxers. Boxer Lover 47 taught me to check the logbook.

Something that I will add is to check the entire box. Most of the bonus boxes that I have planted have the clue taped to the inside of the parent box. Some are readable from the inside and some from the outside. Very few of the finders of the parent box have found the associated bonus box.

I use a smallish crossbody purse. It has a pocket on the front for pens/ markers, a fabric divider in the middle one side for my sig stamp & a few ink pads, the other for my 5 x 7 logbook. It's fabric, so the strap is very comfortable.

Some people seem to operate under the mistaken impression that they should make it easier for the next person to find.

The common expression used on cache pages is, "Hide it better than you found it." This has lead to me being greeted at an event with, "I hate you."

It was because when I found a geocache hidden in the knot hole of a tree, after I had signed and replace it, I found a small branch and put it in the hole. It was the next cacher who had spent more time looking for it that greeted me that way. The cache placer had been at that event too, and he told me that I had hidden it the way that he had originally planted it.

For a geocache, you are only lead to (typically) within 20 feet of the cache. The cache may or may not be obvious from there.

For a typical letterbox a seeker is directed right to the box. However, the directions may simply be clues, of varying degrees of ambiguity/obscurity. The ambiguity may be as broad as "Planet Earth".

I appreciate both types of hunts. Nevertheless, the hunt is always more fun once the goal has been attained. Unless you subscribe to the wisdom of Spock.

Jeez, that reminds me of my days in the 70’s, midnight, Rocky Horror Picture Show.

I really had to leave it hanging because that is how I feel. No response so far. I am so excited that The Lost Boys found my bag. Now I just need to figure out how to acquire the bag. THEN I will say it.

We enjoyed the antics that went along with the movie. Toast, newspapers, windshield wipers.... We brought a friend one time for the first time, and she was pulled up front for being a movie virgin. 😆

I started out with a bigger backpack then got smaller and lighter over the years. I've also reduced my logbook size to fit in a smaller bag. Now I like either a very small pack or a small cross shoulder one. The thing I find a problem now is.. how do you fit the water in, a long hike in July is a problem.

Attend events both close to home and far away, even if it's just a meet and greet. You'll meet lots of fun, interesting people, get to see how others enjoy the hobby and pick up some great tips!

Don't load heavy stones directly on top of a box. In freezing weather the box gets brittle and will be more prone to cracking.

Oh, that is quite sad. If the finder is that un-observant, they certainly don't deserve to find the bonus box. It makes me wonder how they even found the parent box! (sigh)

This had taken me a long time to figure out:
If at first you don't succeed (finding the box)...
read, read, READ the clues again (and yes it may even take a couple more reads :)

This may not be the best one or the best example but it's the first one I saw. There are a lot of different kinds of hooks and hook type bottles that you can combine with a hook and hang from a backpack strap or belt.

I use this for short hikes
https://www.rei.com/product/117062/mountainsmith-tour-lumbar-pack-womens

And for longer ones, I pack my day pack with LB supplies on the outside pocket - and backup gear (compass, first aid, food, extra ink, etc.) inside. This pack is pricey, but it is my regular day/weekend hiking pack that I also use for LBing. The best thing about it is it is basically a dry bag, too.

Read the comments left by previous finders/seekers (BEFORE YOU LEAVE TO FIND SAID BOX) to see what useful information they may have left - such as a sign name change on a trail, ____ missing thing, _____ business that closed, hornet nest or poison ivy present ... etc

When setting out, say to yourself that what you are looking for is adventure. That way, if you don't find the box, you still found what you were looking for.

If a letterbox hasn't been found in over a year (or in several years) there's a good chance it's no longer there or will be really hard to find
-and-
Just because a letterbox hasn't been found in over a year (or in several years) doesn't mean it won't be there or will be really hard to find.
Persevere in your searching, celebrate when you find it and don't be discouraged when you don't find it.

I was given this
https://www.amazon.com/BagoBago-Travel-Backpack-Stool-Combination/dp/B0123SRO46/
as a present by my daughter Ariadne, and absolutely love it... very useful to have a place to sit when stamping.

I also crafted a 'box-box' to hold all my boxing stuff (logbook, pens, inks, stamps):
