This bag was my comfort zone for years. It got something spilled on it that would not wash off, and I have been searching for one just like it for a while now, with no success.

What I liked about it: It had a zipper on the back and a zipper on the I side, and a pocket on the front under the flap. It was easy to get into and out of and was not too heavy. Eventually I would like to find something like this again.

I use this

I strap it to my front, marker pens in smaller front compartment, logbook with sig stamp and ink pad in larger compartment, I hitched a compass on a lanyard to it.

I use a lightweight Marmot Kompressor Plus day pack. It's plenty big enough for the stuff I carry, and I can slip a 2 or 3 L water bladder in it if I plan on being out/hiking for a while.

Me, too. It's actually a child's backpack and fits me fine, as a small to medium sized woman.

A Sherpa of course... what, you guys schlep your own gear around!?

Seriously though, on longer trips we carry a backpack. On shorter excursions we have a custom made otter-type box with a divider, inks and stamp.

We carry a zipper pencil pouch which holds the clues (printed to stamp in and put in a 3 ring binder later), pre-stamped signature Avery labels, markers, pens and supplies if the box is damaged. We started with a crossover bag with a notebook and accessories and changed to the zipper pouch later. Convenience, I suppose =)

Two handbags, one for letterboxing, one for geocaching. The geocaching bag includes a selection of trade items. The letterboxing bag contains sig stamp and ink as well as baggies and other stuff for repairs -- which can also be helpful for a geocache, so if I'm hunting a geocache I carry both bags.

I have a backpack but I've found it too cumbersome to fiddle with for most boxes. I take it on the road, but normally leave it in the car. I use it to carry a larger selection of trade items and baggies and whatnot and restock the handbags from it after an outing. If I'm facing a more serious trek, more than a couple of miles, I will sometimes clear extra stuff out of the back pack, through the handbags into it, and use it for the trek. It's hard to talk SWMBO into taking those treks, though, so that rarely happens.

I use a backpack. I put sig stamp and ink pads in plastic pencil pouch and keep a few paper towels and zip loc baggies extra and sometimes even a plastic box/duct tape in case a box needs maintenance if I am close to home.... load lightens if travelling though

I bought the arctic brand lunchbox from Walmart at the start of school. It has a front pocket perfect for our three 5x7 logbooks. There is a plastic tray in the large main compartment with a divider that I put our ink in on one side and signature stamps in little boxes in the other.
It has a handle so I can carry just that, and small enough I can toss it in a backpack.
And it's moderately waterresistant.

What is one tip?

What is one tip that someone gave you or that you have figured out does yourself and that you would give to a new -- or not so new -- letterboxer?

Mine would be about clues. When I started boxing, I was taught that there are three different kinds of clues:

1. Directions take you right to a box.
2. Clues give you an idea, but you still have to do some thinking to figure it out.
3. Riddles have to be solved to figure out the clue.

If you're new to letterboxing, spend some time finding boxes and see how and where others have planted their boxes. This will help you when you do start to plant your own boxes and prevent you from placing a box in a place that will guarantee it's demise.

Even though you're excited and want to jump right in, resist the urge to launch a hitchhiker with a store-bought stamp in an oversize plastic container that doesn't seal well.

I would just say when it comes to letterboxing, don't choose wassamatta u. No need to narrow it down to the trailname only.

I carry an over the shoulder side pack. Everything I always need are in the out side pockets. Stuff I might need are inside the bag area. I can slide the bag to the front to get what I need and not take it off.

My backpack.

The story of its acquisition is embarrassingly funny and it is so ridiculously heavy it almost kills me... Creepily, I plan to be buried with it!

I carry front always, everything is at my fingertips, don’t have to keep flipping a back pack around. Mind you, I don’t carry much more than a logbook, sig stamp, one ink pad, and 12 markers. I hiked to the top of Mount Maggaloway with it on, I’ve done miles of hiking with it on.
