I use a lot of small, round boxes in order to have the most flexibility when planting. Double-bagging doesn't work in those boxes.

There are small, even tiny plastic bags at office supply stores. If it's a tight fit that helps to keep things dry. You just have to play around with these methods.

There's an old school thing also....not to do with double bagging really.......but.....if you like small and round........take two old style film canisters....that you can buy on eBay in bulk for not much.....tape them with duct tape...or camo if preferred......with the bottoms together...stamp in one, logbook in the other, use cash register tape for the logbook. :)

Makes a really cool little container. You can put the tiny logbook in one of the tiny plastic bags and if the stamp gets wet that's not really a big deal. Dry it, ink it. :)

Obviously some hiding spots are more suited to the canisters than others but it's a fun container.

That brings back such memories! I loved those containers back in the heyday of early PA boxing, but I haven't seen anybody use that setup in years.

I actually have a couple setting on my desk. I've been wanting to use them. The boxing muse hasn't called out to me yet. Have to do a wee little stamp. Or a "hinged" stamp. More old school I'll bet you remember. heh

You know, I keep looking at that box you planted in MA.....the one I can't figure out yet. lol

Hinged stamps oft accompanied the double film canister boxes.

Which one, Yidstock? Or something a bit more secretive? ;)

I actually think I know but am not sure enough. It *looks* so easy. lol

But nay.......it is not elementary

Did I ever tell you I planted that stamp you returned to me? I meant to.

Ah, that one. It's not from somewhere where I used to fiddle over the summers ;) Not sure if it's still there, though - one attempt report last year, and I haven't been able to return to check on it...

!!!!!! So cool that it's replanted! I'm glad that the rescued stamp was able to live again! !!!!!!

My kitty’s stamp

So...I am just so grateful for this hobby and community. It has been a rough year and got rougher last week when I had to ask a family member to put my kitty down while I was away. My family member had taken the kitty to the vet and she was so sick that she was suffering terribly. So after 15-years of having my kitty, I said good-bye over Facetime.

I have been packing up kitty things and realized that all I have is poo in a litter box, her food, a few fluff toys and catnip as kitty stuff. There are a bunch of fuzzy pictures on my phone, but nothing of her. (No. I am not keeping her poo...) But then I remembered a stamp I made of her paw impression that has been hiding locally. I retired it and now have an awesome personal traveler, made by my kitty. Had it not been for letterboxing, I may actually have considered keeping her poo. (Or not...)

Thank you all so much for the fun. I love that I have something that I did not know would mean so much.
Gah!

I planted a new letterbox series over the weekend and I just read that a dead body was found in the park where I planted. (It's being investigated as a homicide.)

Make it a Mystery Box, and offer a bonus stamp if the finder also solves the murder.

It is not the same, but I planted a series of six on a trail at a local park last week. A week later I went back with some folks, and the park is closed because they are redoing the baseball field -- for the next year!

Oh no! Hope your boxes are safe. I'm sure mine are fine; it's more upsetting that the murder happened, and it's a little creepy to have just been there.

Cyclonic had a box a few miles from my house on a really popular bike trail. It was just a single box but on this trail, about a mile west of the box, a man on a bicycle was being robbed by three teens and he shot one robber dead and injured another. The bicyclist had a license to carry and was exonerated because it was ruled self defense.

Then, a few months later, a little east of the box, somebody dumped a body that had been murdered elsewhere. Fortunately, there has been no crime on the trail since then and it is just as popular as it was before the crimes.

So, so sorry to hear. We lost a kitten not too long ago, unexpectedly, to some malady. I know how heartbreaking it can be.

I’m glad you were able to retrieve the stamp - it’s nice to have that memory.

Hopefully this is a one-off! It seems like a really nice park and when I planted, it was full of people with their kids and/or pets.
Can I quote you on that?

So frequently there is a box quoting something someone else has said so that it can referred to in the response ... How does one do that?? I haven't managed to figure it out.
