What's all this about transparency if you are all contacting each other privately?

Emily . . . Emily, they're talking about transparencies - see through sheets of plastic that you can write on with special markers. A letterboxer has a bunch of them to share. No one is being secret about this.

Boxes planted on the trail at an event that we follow clues to find are listed as traditional boxes. The stamp that represents the event is listed as an event box. The fact that the ones on the trail may be temporary is not a factor.

I wouldn't call this a consensus. I'd call it standard practice.

While geocaching in the Pulaski State Park region in NE RI we came across two un-named letterboxes along the trails. Both had stamps wrapped in cloth, but no ink pad or logbook. Nice stamps: one was a CAT wearing a Statue of Liberty costume (Liberty Cat?) and the other was a small Rabbit. Both were in small lock&locks and listed Atlasquest.com but no other info. Anyone knows about these?

Modifying a LTRB site map

I find when I create a listing for a new letterbox, there's a target or pushpin that located in the map wherever the location specified is. That is, the pushpin falls in the geographic center of the town, but not necessarily in the location of the letterbox.

I wish there was a way to click and drag on that pushpin to re-position it to the correct spot on the map for the letterbox. Seems like it would speed up the process of searching for so many future boxers.

You just need to give a more specific location than just the town: a street address, a park name, etc. Even without doing that, when setting the location you can customize the exact GPS coordinates if you like.

Edit your box, go to the "location" page, and check out your options.

Letterboxes that are part of a series may only contain the stamp (no logbook). The first is most probably Rat-A-Tat Cat, box #2 in the Games Geeks Play series. I am not sure about the rabbit, but it is most likely a box in a series.

I did that series so I looked in my logbook. If the rabbit's tail looks kind of like a lightening bolt and is pointed on the end. I think it's "Pika" from that same series. One floppy ear and one straighter ear, little dots on cheeks. It's on the same page as Rat-A-Tat-Cat. It's a pika, not a rabbit but it looks like a rabbit.

Thank you for reporting on these letterboxes, edexter! If you had any trouble putting the boxes back where you found them, please contact MMACJ, who planted the boxes for a letterboxing event.

Thanks,

Kelsung has one of these

You can only have so many pins per map, so I have two for every year since 2009 (one each for previous years) with different colors per year . When Google Maps changed a couple years ago, I don't know how to get it to open multiple maps at once. It looks like you're still able to do that, so can you tell me how?

Here's an old screen cap from a couple years ago (2013?) that I just found (inspiring my late reply to this thread):

springchick and I are looking for a good quality head and shoulders picture of Safari Man (Glenn) for a possible tribute stamp.

Anyone who has a candidate photo should write to Springchick directly to offer it.

Thanks!

His Sig Stamp is amazing. I met Glenn at LBCon, he was an incredible carver.

To me, a signature stamp is highly personal. It's our identity out there as boxers. Usually we get to know each others trail names and sig stamp image before we meet in person.

That said, I would never want to plant his, or anyones, sig stamp. The possibility of it getting muggled, chewed up by critters, or water logged, is just heartbreaking to think about.

That should remain with his family.

I'm jealous! Transparencies seem to be hard to get. At least when I went into the local Staples and asked for them the young kid who was helping me looked at me like I had two heads. He kept taking the laminating sleeves off the rack and asking "Are you sure these aren't what you're looking for?"

I used these on my glasswing butterfly:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00MEY6GEO/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new

I liked that you could emboss on them because they are heat-resistant, although I didn't end up doing that. The cheapest price is an "add on" item, so you'd need to be ordering other stuff to get that price.

One of the best things about living and boxing in SE Ohio is the lack of people.

It's not all that hard to be the first finder of a box since there's not a lot of traffic through this quarter of the state.

One of the worst things about living and boxing in SE Ohio is the lack of people.

Very few come down here from the big city and even fewer hunt for boxes. As a result, boxes go untouched for months if not years at a time. Trees fall over, land-owners change trails, markers, landmarks, etc.

A shout out to Triviadaddy of J Walkers of S.Carolina for coming through recently and attempting 7 boxes! I should have urged him to go for 3 more Who Goes There (3) by cameracarrie in the Forked Run State Park, which would have been easily claimed on the way home before picking up an expressway! As it was, I GOT FIRST FINDERS on this hand-carved set of three!

Or maybe add an option to exclude particular boxes from the map count? That might be a more elegant alternative to removing finds.
