That sounds like it needs more of an explanation.

I'm thinking he may start blasting away if start backing up quickly.

You may have been right.... quick thinking and way to remain calm.

Have 5 sci-fi themed stamps that are going to be part of a series and 5 random stamps. Wanted to make custom pouches for the 5 sci-fi ones and need to duct tape the boxes . . . just need to find that elusive item, TIME to take care of those few tasks and then to plant them.

It's a township park that's currently being expanded/improved. I don't want to plant something and have it end up where a new trail's going to be, so I'm waiting until this last phase of the development is over.

Obviously that was my biggest mistake. I never thought we would be pulling into an armed gang meeting. We hadn't seen anyone else for maybe 2 miles.
I try to see the good in everyone. No one threatened us in any way other than showing me their guns and in the end the lady did tell me how to get where I was going. God was on my side that day. Thanks for your concern Bee. FF, after getting out of there my next concern was getting back to my car so it wouldn't get locked in. Plus I was 2 hours from home to a place I had never been to before.

Lessons learned?

1. Don't get out of the car when there are guns visible.
2. Don't approach any group of men at dusk.
3. Don't rely on GPS.
4. Your danger radar* must have been impaired or a gene you lack. We have wound up in some shady areas and we just keep going. Bad areas are not worth any stamp image.
5. Boxing in an unfamiliar area at dusk in a bad idea.
6. You must lead a charmed life to get out of that one with a story to tell.

RADARS:

The most important ones I have are:
1. Dangerous situations
2. Something not quite right in the woods. Comes from growing up walking and hunting in the woods.
3. The most important used to be DaddyDar. Knew when something was not right involving the daughters.
4. BS radar (works about 70% of the time).

Yes, yes, yes!

Something not quite right in the woods

DaddyDar

Very early on in my letterboxing career, my daughter and I were hiking in the woods and in the distance, we saw a group of men on ATVs. My MommyDar kicked in, and I made her hide with me in a cellar hole until after this group of guys passed us. The stuff they were saying when they were stopped nearby (they were wondering where we went) made me very, very glad that we hid.

Ever since then, if I feel that something is "off," I get the heck out of there. Discretion is the better part of valor.

Today we went looking for a box that hadn't been found in nearly six years! It was there although in very rough shape. So exciting to find it though!

I love finding boxes that haven't been found in years. It's oddly satisfying. We tried for an "unknown" today, but that box appears to be gone.

Excellent observation and advice.

It is much easier to STAY out of trouble than to GET out of it.

Traveling for work has heightened awareness hasn't it Irish Ref?

And I didn't even mention the previous stop. I was more afraid there than the one I described at the beginning. Without going into detail so more people don't jump in, when we parked we both were very hesitant about getting out. We did. Only out of the car for 5 minutes. And before coming back into view of the parking lot I said the only weapon I have is this pen. She says this is all I have and holds up her key ring and either shows me a 2 inch knife or a sharp key. Fun Fun. And I have many more stories I could tell.

Envious! Lots and lots and lots of rain here, with the temps at that cold damp seep into your bones level.

TMD and I did get out for our annual Boxing Day and managed about 2 dozen before the heavy rains rolled in.

Dreaming of sunny, dry days......

Absolutely. I have seen parts of the state that have been rather eye-opening. Although most of my danger radar's have been in larger communities.

Funny thing parks are sometimes good gathering places for lots of illicit activities.

Even was looking funny at a truck that was just sitting in a park near the dog park area. Just didn't feel right. Looked like they were waiting to make a trade, or of course worse things.
