You're definitely not imagining it! I read about it on other AQ Message Board posts and now I'm hearing it too!

Welcome to the hobby! I noticed right away that two of your three children have Autism.
I do as well (PDD-NOS) and one board that you may want to check into is the Letterboxing with Disabilities Message Board ( http://www.atlasquest.com/boards/messages.html?gMsgId=396088;gBoardId=367 ) as there have been threads on Autism and Letterboxing there.

I hope you and your family can enjoy letterboxing for many years to come! It really is quite a spectacular hobby!

I see AQ can't make up it's mind on the theme today and more than Mother Nature can about winter being over and spring arriving....LOL

Happy April Fools! New England got the biggest joke today.

Perhaps this gaseous situation is because the "Fearless Colon" is celebrating today.... two year AQversary!

I certainly hope so.

Welcome!! I grew up in Searsport and have planted many boxes in town. Here are a few series that will be fun for your family.

In Belfast you can find the Mermaids - http://www.atlasquest.com/showinfo.html?gBoxId=151600

In Searsport you can find:
Foliage of Maine - http://www.atlasquest.com/showinfo.html?gBoxId=114204
Let's Play Ball - http://www.atlasquest.com/showinfo.html?gBoxId=72603
Coat of Arms - http://www.atlasquest.com/showinfo.html?gBoxId=81621 (this one is divided between 5 different cemetaries so there is some driving involved.)

In Stockton Springs you can Tour Fort Pownel and see Fort Point Lighthouse - http://www.atlasquest.com/showinfo.html?gBoxId=114205

And I also planted a seres at Fort Knox in Prospect (some of the boxes have gone missing or were pulled) - http://www.atlasquest.com/showinfo.html?gBoxId=81473

All of these are kid friendly and pretty close by you.

Enjoy, Jiffy

Find the Future: Overnight Scavenger Hunt in NYC

I think this event sounds like a load of fun. Spend a night in the New York Public library. Follow clues, complete a scavenger hunt, and then write about it. If this doesn't appeal to at least a few letterboxers, I'd be surprised.

Following the live event, there will be an online version available, so all of us who won't be in NYC on May 20 will be able to play - at least, virtually.

I'm so distracted by all these themes....and then I noticed a letterboxing one and when I clicked on "about theme" it went to the correct page, but the theme changed and I lost the pics that went with it...didn't try to go backwards. Probably wouldn't work anyways....

Hi Mommy Turtle!

I have a six year old boy who I am homeschooling and we have been letterboxing with me for about six months now. He is not as into it as I would like but I like your idea about doing the writing in the logbook. He is not very strong at writing yet. Maybe this could be a way for him to work on it.

Our family is new to Washington. We moved here in at the end of August and letterboxing was a good way to find new things. I like to stamp everything on 3x5 cards and scrapbook them like photos. I agree that putting in pictures and momentos makes my logbook a detailed history of some really wonderful adventures.

I was encouraged to see your post. If you have any more bright ideas that you feel like passing along I wouldn't mind!

Blessings,
Bunny Foo Foo

Welcome BunnyFooFoo,

I loved that song as a kids and my daughter loves it now. I just thought I would share an idea that makes letterboxing more of an adventure for my kids. Get some in expensive walkie talkies. Come up with code names for you and him. Then allow him to go a little in front of you when you go out to hunt. Using your codes names, give him pieces of the clue to look for. When he finds them he can call back to you using your code name and receive the next part. We have also used the Harry Potter word "muggle" for people walking on the trail.

Have a great time.

I love finding nice wildlife- I've gotten really close to deer while letterboxing up north. In Florida in the summer we have some huge spiders and tough spider webs that take over many of the parks...they are wildlife that I don't like running into. Haven't seen a fox yet- very cool.
