Yes, as we just enjoyed, AAF! St Louis is a wonderful place to letterbox. Wish we could have stayed longer and found more of the incredible boxes by the very talented SL area planters.

Thanks so much to everyone who shared suggestions. We’re looking forward to checking out as many of those sites as we can!

Sadly I did not go boxing on boxing day. While it was good enough weather for boxing, it was also good enough weather to finally paint the shed we've been meaning to paint for a couple months...so I did that instead. However, I DID find 2 boxes on Christmas Day, and I just packed up 4 for planting soon... :)
ORLANDO AREA HELP ME PROPOSE TO MY GF

So, my girlfriend Kelsi and I have been dating for a year and a half and been friends for almost our entire lives. We bonded at the beginning of our relationship over letterboxing. It has been such an adventurous and enticing hobby. I want to propose to her, in letterbox fashion. I’m taking her to Walt Disney World in Orlando for New Years but I don’t want to be like every other chap in the world proposing at Magic Kingdom. Can anyone help me in the Orlando area!? We’re going to go out letterboxing on the 1st of January.

Oh I wish I were local and I'd carve a special stamp and hide it somewhere where you were going for you!!! I hope someone in Orlando is available to help make it special! Maybe you could get a special AQ background with rings or something?! (hint hint) Good luck and Congrats!

I'm not on the area, but my friend's fiance did manage to slip her ring into a letterbox shortly before she found it. I think she'd gone to the restroom or something and he was able to find it and put it in there before she came back out. She thought it was fake and that a geocasher had put it in there at first :)
Good luck!!!!

Team Mad Dawg and I went for our annual Boxing Day adventure. We first celebrated boxing day together in 2003 and have only missed one year (my fault--major surgery) and had to delay once due to weather--made it out the next day! Both of our families know not to expect us for anything on this day, and we both take off from work even.

This year we went to Woodland Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio. A beautiful day!! High 40s, sunny, no wind. Found 24 boxes, TMD hit the 3K mark and we laughed a lot.

As we think back on this letterboxing year, two thoughts stand out for us. First, the passing of our friend sewsewbizzy, who will never long be far from our minds; and second, Live and Breath XX in Texas. A tribute to sewsewbizzy was given at L&B XX and we came away with one of her stamp (recently replanted at Lake Tahoe.)

AND Kudos again to the Texas crew, renegades and otherwise, for a super special event. It was the highlight of this year and right up there with the best LB experiences that we have had.

Letterboxing New Year's resolutions?

I was chatting with a friend a couple of weeks ago, and I mentioned that I have actual letterboxing New Year's resolutions this coming year. Specifically, I have two series mostly ready to go that are sitting at my house. It's time for them to go out into the world.

Does anyone else have some resolutions or goals for 2019?

Last year's resolution was to box in at least one new state. I ended up with three (Texas, Arkansas, and Mississippi). My 2019 resolution is the same. 😊

Nov 17, 2018: Power Plant Challenge
Calling all letterboxers: It's time to plant more boxes!

On the looooong ride back from L&B, fellow boxers and I were discussing the future of letterboxing in North Carolina and decided:
1. We want to be able to find more letterboxes in NC
and
2. Newer letterboxers would be attracted to letterboxing if they don't strike out on their first few searches due to older MIA boxes

Therefore - we have created a Power Plant challenge! We challenge all letterboxers to plant 10 traditional boxes in the next six months. Imagine - if even 10 boxers accepted the challenge - that would be 100 new boxes. If 40 boxers did it, 400 new boxes in the state for everyone to enjoy! Even if planting is not your favorite part of letterboxing - the only way to get new boxes (and boxers) is to plant - so let's all plant together!

~ Of course, there are prizes ~
Participants who plant at least ten traditional permanent plants between Nov. 1 and April 30 will receive a Power Planter Patch.
Participants who plant at least 50 traditional permanent plants between Nov. 1 and April 30 will receive a Power Planter Path tag.
There will be special recognition and a grand prize (TBD) for the participant who plants the most traditional permanent plants during this six month period.

~ Quality is important ~
While this is a planting challenge, it's important to still think through your permanent plant - don't just toss boxes out and hope for the best. Plant boxes in locations you would be able to check on, are safe from muggle meddling, and will hopefully be around for quite a while. Drive by, long hike, easy clue, challenging puzzle - and all shapes and sizes of letterboxes in between - those details are up to you. You could do a series or individual boxes. Since the goal is to increase our permanent plants in the state, these boxes should be permanent, not temporary or just for events.

~ Other details: boxers and boxes everwhere are welcome!
Anyone can participate - even boxers in other states
You can plant anywhere - even other states (letterboxing while traveling is a grand adventure)!

~ OK - you're IN - how to participate:
1. Send me an AQ message to let me know you want to participate! You can contact me at any time during our six month challenge.
2. Plant at least ten boxes (or way more) over the next six months (Nov. 1 through April 30, 2019).
3. We will recognize all participants at the big GeekFest event in Raleigh at the start of May. You do not need to be present to participate (but we know you want to come to this huge event). We will share all the participants who qualify for the patch and pathtag, and announce the grand prize winner. If you are not able to attend GeekFest, we will send you your patch/path tag through snailmail.

Let me know if you have any questions, and plant on, NC! (Super Hedge Hoggie)

Very interesting, and frankly the kind of external motivation I need to complete my own NY resolution - lol! Am I understanding correctly that this is open to NC letterboxers or out-of-state letterboxers planing in NC? (In other words, someone such as myself - a CO letterboxer planting in CO - wouldn't fit with this challenge?) If my understanding is correct, is it Ok to knock off this idea?

True, of course, but the call for quality is emphasized so I don't think this event is promoting the indiscriminate spewing of garbage (ISOG)
