Nothing here, but we checked at 10:30 - not night owls, really. Sounds like it wasn't much anywhere:

We could only see it from 6:15-6:30. Then it slipped below the trees. Good thing we got up early to see it, because they were saying 6:30-7:15.

Hey there astronomy fans. A sharp eyed astronomy fan can tell me what is factually wrong at about 10-15 seconds into this commercial....[presuming this is someplace frozen on planet Earth]...

While others discuss serious points... from the point of view of the young lady, SHE is correct.
Obviously parked on a planetary surface 'somewhere', with gravity pulling towards her down direction, the sky in this case is UP and thus correct. Out there would have referred to anywhere outside the vehicle she is inside of. Left and right are not in the discussion.

Now back to the serious stuff... What about the Easter Bunny? That has to be real... right?

Almost forgot the OP... I doubt that something as small as a TIE fighter, even one on fire would be bright enough to be seen so far away that the planet it is falling onto disappears completely while the other ships also vanish... or that the light would just sit in view when in the film the explosions are over in seconds... certainly NOT comet material or timing...

Still it is an interesting ad... Glad to say that I made good on my 7th consecutive first day viewing. I'm not sure how many more I have left in me time wise... given the spacing of the movies in years.

The explosion would not produce enough light to be visible to the naked eye since it is occurring in a galaxy far far away, although it would take a long time for the light to travel here, so the timing may be accurate.

Poor Pluto is right! It's bad enough to get a demotion. But P also is a verb now...

On 5th January 2007, the 17th annual vote of the American Dialect Society crowned the new verb pluto, with the meaning 'to demote or devalue someone or something', as its 'Word of the Year' for 2006. Pluto claimed the winning spot by narrowly overtaking the (arguably more useful) expression climate canary, referring to something which indicates a looming environmental catastrophe caused by climate change (a canary was at one time used as a way of signalling impending disaster in a coalmine)
