CR new boxes and my loooooooooonnnnnnng lunch break!

Thread
OK, I get really excited when Cherokee Rose plants a new box because I love the FF gifts that she makes and her stamps are always nice!
So this morning when I saw that she had planted 2 boxes, yesterday... And they're right down the road from my office, I got REALLY excited! Then realized that I didn't have my backpack (ie:logbook, stamp, etc.) :(
So after pondering the idea, I decided that I would drive 18 miles home to get my bag, 18 miles back to the park to get FF on these boxes... Even if I would be late back to work.
When I pulled up to the park I had 25 minutes before I HAD to be back!
I started walking towards the trails and the men working at the park were looking at me strange! Maybe because I am dressed in my office slack, sweater and heels! LOL!
I am running through the mud in heels and when I found the first box it seemed to take me forever to stamp in but I got thru it! The second box however - everything went wrong as to add to my lateness! The wind blew my baggies away (I got them back!) I got mud everywhere and dropped all of my markers! After stamping in I hauled booty back to the car and took my little Miata as fast as it could go to get back to work.
See I knew my boss had a meeting at 1pm and that I need to be here to great them. I have an hour for lunch - I left at 11:40 and didn't get back until 1:15, you do the math!
Anyway I am VERY EXCITED to have gottten FF on these and I will NEVER leave my bag at home again!
Great lunch, thank CR!!

I just did my first ever attempt at stamp carving! It was fun (now to see if it will turn out right). I THINK it is all carved, although I haven't been able to get ahold of a stamp pad to try it out. After awhile it looked like a lumpy pink pad. I am HOPING it will look like an eagle's head. We will see...

Brook use a marker if you have one. Once I think I am finished - I often get the ink on to see it better and then may need to do a little more.

You could do what they did in National Treasure to make an impression when you're lacking an ink pad. Just need a little blood to make it work. ;o)

Don't worry--it will be in the next big update. Probably around mid-April, at this point. I'd do it sooner, but I don't like the idea of uploading new code just before leaving for Panama for a couple of weeks because if something goes wrong, it won't be easy for me to fix it out there!

But shortly after getting back, I should have lots of fun new stuff to upload. =)

I know there is at least one geocache somewhere on a trail where I'd like to plant, since we met some cachers hiking there when we went to scout a location. But I realize it's presence doesn't necessarily mean boxing is "allowed".

Geocaching polices itself much tighter than letterboxing does. If there is a known rule against geocaching in a certain park, or type of park, then neither the website moderators nor the local associations would allow that cache to be listed, nor remain in place.

That goes double in Georgia, where the local geocachers association polices themselves as strictly as anyone. If there is a geocache along a trail that you're looking at, then it's allowed by that land manager's rules and you can plant there too.

I am searching for the L & N Depot PLB. I sent it to Daniel Quinney in West Jordan, Ut. on Feb 28th and it arrived there on March 2nd, but I have not heard any confirmation or anything since. I have posted to the "Big" board and to our SE group with no answer. So if anyone knows how to get intouch with Daniel or maybe has the box please please let me know.

Thanks

You might post your concerns and message to the postal letterbox list on both Atlas Quest and Yahoo groups.

I am very sad to hear the box status is up in the air.

Hope you find it soon.

Thank you, everyone, for the helpful comments!! It's sounding like there's a good chance I can place boxes in some of our favorite spots without undue fear of breaking the rules. Good! Now I just need to scout more spots and write some clues. Carving will be the fun part! (As if it's not all cool!) Don't hold your breath, because I barely have time to hunt boxes these days, but I am looking forward to providing some more reasons to visit the mountains. :)

I know the distance from here and the hikes involved will mean I can't check them as often as I would otherwise, but I think I will still be able to get up there fairly often. I love boxes that involve a lovely, but break-a-sweat sort of hike. We tend to box in single and double finds, rather than trying to pack a ton into one trip. Guess that's why we're still only at F13! :)

I plan on providing a heads-up about bears and hunters in my clues, but thank you for the reminder! I have to remember that lots of boxers may not have a lot of experience with the area.

Ooh, I'm getting all excited about placing, now. Wonder if I should start with a local box, just to get my feet wet?

It is often said that "Imitation is the best form of flattery". Is this true in the letterboxing world?

What I mean is, would you be happy if another boxer created a clue that was similar to yours? what if it was a mystery clue? would it be okay if they asked permission?

For example, would Red be upset if someone created another "Restless Dreams" type box? or Eli & Aubrey be upset if there was another "Prisoner" clue out there? or would they be excited because someone else liked there clue style so much that they created a similar one for others to experience (maybe in a different part of the country).

Or should we all be challenging ourselves to create new and different styles of boxes?

Just curious what everyone thinks.
