Not sure where I’ll be in April this year, but I’m sure I’ll be able to find a good brew or two...and plant a box of course. 🍻

I've not done much boxing in the last few years. Inexcusable, I know, but trying to get back in the loop. There are so many breweries near me now, so I shall try to contribute.

Plant A Beer Day is a great time to get back into boxing. Cheers!

I am delighted to read all the lovely, kind comments arriving via AtlasQuest email. I recall with nostalgia how much fun we had last year at the original Whodunits event.

Thank you all so much for sharing your excitement and enthusiasm with me. Although I letterbox only occasionally, I thoroughly enjoy a good mystery, and tried to provide that for you.

Thanks for all the nice comments! Glad everyone had a good time. It was great to see you all- old friends and new. We had fun watching all the collaboration going on. And the way Aunt Agatha designed the event - with the "checking out" of the stamps and the 911 coupons, made us part of the event, not just hosts!

Thanks, Aunt Agatha for a fun day! Hopefully there is a redux in our future...

There was a pair of cheater glasses left behind (animal print.) Let me know if they are yours and I'll bring them to the next event.
Third Annual Letterboxers Egg Hunt!

The third annual Letterboxers Egg Hunt is fast approaching!

I have already received some terrific stamps from all over the country, and I am carving up a storm myself! If you have an ANIMATION stamp you’d like to contribute to the event, the tracker is here.

A couple of quick reminders:

1. This is a RAIN OR SHINE and a TWO DAY event - 9 am to 6 pm on both Saturday AND Sunday! There was some confusion about that in previous years. Flexible to meet your schedule!

2. Coming from far away? We have three air mattresses and a futon couch! Stay over, box the event, box the surrounding area! Have your own air mattress? Bring it along!

3. This is a pet-friendly event so long as your pet remains on leash at all times. Our property is right on the Scituate Reservoir and there are no fences. We really enjoyed our Dog Scouts the last two years, working hard on their letterboxing patches :-)

4. Event boxes are always welcome!

More details as the event nears!

if you plant them, they will come :-)
Teaching 5WH in letterboxing...

A thought in process........So We ( Bobbie and I) were talking today about when and how we got into letterboxing 8 almost 9 years ago... We read up on it and decided to jump right into it.... At first it was a little... I guess emotional, unsure, confused if we were doing it right.... But we succeeded and then We hosted our first ever event and felt it went a lot better then we figured it would...
Anyways... Long story short... We were thinking about doing a meet and greet, newbies, oldies.... Kinda theme event...

We have talked to our family and friends about it that they sometimes just say.... "Oh sounds fun" "I wanna do that" but never have the push... So we thought why not throw an event type party to show people what its like. Set up a letterboxing party for those who want to give it a try before they sign up and join... What are your thoughts? Concerns? Idea? Advice?

If we did do something like this would you consider helping us show the ropes?

Just our thoughts

Hi. I work with Girl Scouts and I am also a volunteer ranger with The Last Green Valley National Heritage Corridor in CT/MA. I run introduction to letterboxing programs all the time. I would be happy to give you any advice on this type of program. I usually take about letterboxing and explain how it's done, then we make signature stamps using blocks of wood (2"x2" scrap wood blocks) and use the stick-on foam shapes to make the stamps. Then I give then a little starter logbook I make out of card stock and copy paper folded in half and stapled and send them on their way to look for boxes at the site we are at. Usually we can do the program and find 4 boxes in about 2 hours. (45 minutes to do the intro and stamp and an hour or so depending on group size to find the boxes.

If you want the directions for the stamps I can send them out. This program has been very popular with Girl Scouts and their families - I keep adding programs and now do 8 a year plus a full event for the Girl Scouts and run the program yearly for TLGV Acorn Adventures. It works well for all ages and is great for family groups.

So, I have be struggling with this year's event.

The escape room was sooooo much fun and it was a great theme. And it was a type of event that I had wanted to do for some time . . . which brings me to this year's event.

I really, really, really want to do a multi-day "camp". The problem for me and my crew is location. Location, location, location. It would be better for my crew and co conspirators to host this type of event in "our own backyard".... as in Lassen County.

Lassen County is just ripe for dozens of plants we can do for the event theme.

The problem of course for the attendees is Location, location, location. This is why we normally eye Reno for the events because it is closer and it is a big city and it has casinos and great food. But Reno will not work for all of the activities we have planned for "camp".

Now, one of the cool things about where we would like to host this "camp" is actually free to camp in and RV camp in. It's totally free. (But for RVs, there is no sewage dumping, though.) Hotel camping, though, is not free.

But if no one comes, then that would be super bad. (and a little hurtful)

So, that's the problem.

Using the theme, we have soooo many awesome ideas, like a smore's gathering, ghost stories telling, potlucks, a Beast in the Woods mystery, an escape room-that is separate from The Beast in the Woods, maybe a talent show, a really fun raffle . . .

It would be 2.5 days of camp related activities and letterboxing.

The event would start on Friday, go through Saturday and end Sunday afternoon. You don't have to do the "camp" activities, if you just want to letterbox the entire weekend. You would decide.

But I don't know what kinda of interest this would garnish. Now, I know I haven't said the actual theme, but it's a great one!

And just an FYI, I actually like the idea of the event starting off on Friday the 13th of September but we have also been eyeing the last weekend too.

So.... feedback, please! The more the merrier. Anyone who has ever attendant a Cat and Bird Production KNOWS my events have a cast and crew who are driven to having an AWESOME event.

Exactly. Those were our very same thoughts as well.

And so almost against our better judgement we chose the middle of a Forest to keep $$$ costs low and because the location was convenient for us.

So far all is going very well and the turnout has exceeded our expectations. Although I have to add that just a few days ago there was a moment when we thought only 6 people were showing up.

There are going to be disappointments no matter your venue.

My advice, follow your instinct and choose the location that works best for you and your crew.

How near are the Hotel Camping areas? Close enough to not be a pain to drive a couple times a day? Although my young mind would like to camp in the great, and I'm sure you'll make them scary, outdoors, I'm not sure my older bones would appreciate it. Either way, if I can get off of work I would love to attend another Cat and Bird Production. XOXO

7 miles from Susanville to Roxie Peconum, the camp site we like.

Susanville is 3/4 surrounded by forest. The remaining 1/4 is desert, called High Desert.

So it must be set up as an invite only event...

So contact one of the folks mentioned and get the details if you are seriously interested...

I'm day dreaming about it - but financially can't swing it... though I'd love to attend :)

Hi crafting and LTC friends! I changed the event listing restrictions so it can be seen by more interested parties...I apologize for the delay in doing this since I was tied up this weekend. This retreat tradition started out a few years ago with a small group of letterboxers who share a very strong interest and commitment to making artistic LTC's with a wide range of art mediums, as well as continuously being challenged in our carving skills to make stamps with a variety of criteria to push us to grow and improve in our art and skills. By getting together to share our ideas, skills, and friendship together for one weekend every year we can support each other and learn so much! We have been holding this annual retreat in different places around the country, and with different "hosts". Really, we all just do this thing TOGETHER, and set up little "sharing sessions" over the weekend to show or help each other with using different inks, paints, watercolors, embossing, shaving cream, gelli plates, die cuts and paper embossing, and so much more! We also have boxing on our agenda and often plant boxes for the retreat as well as do some boxing in the area. We have had as many as 20 attendees at retreats, but this year we are meeting at a small retreat property that can only accomodate 12 guests so we were reluctant to make this more "advertised" so as not to raise the hopes of more people than the amount allowed! That said, we are now in a position where we have two open spots to offer to anyone who expresses an interest-please check the event listing to read more about our weekend in the beautiful Rocky Mountains, and contact either myself or the Woodshed for any questions! We'd love to hear from all of you enthusiastic crafters! :-D
