Stamp requests

Has anyone heard of Blaze On? Before I recycle any stamps I'd like to know this is a legitimate letterboxer. I've never come across a letterboxer with zero finds and a couple of plants. It strikes me as odd.

One of the plants is a Kirbert carved stamp and he's listed as owner.

Yes, legitimate. Well, at least in the sense that ANY of us are "legitimate".
And I'm sure as heck not delving into the realm of parentage.

Blue stuff?

Thread
On Instagram, I follow a carver who uses blue carving medium and seems to get pretty good detail.

Does anyone know what this stuff is and has anyone ever used it?

Blue stuff is less expensive than pink stuff - but also a little softer/more crumbly. Great for shorter term stamps, but probably not the best bet for planting in the wild (in my opinion).

Yea, what Hedge Hoggie said ... cheaper ... both in price and in quality. I did a couple carves on it, and it was crumbly ... never again.

The carving in your link certainly can't be the 'blue stuff' that we are all familiar with. The edges are too fine and pristine to have been carved from the crumbly, blue garbage we all know and hate, lol.

There is a blue material that is pretty common in parts of Europe called Factis and a number of carvers I've seen with pristine carves seem to carve with it (I haven't tried it): https://www.gerstaecker.nl/FACTIS-Artist-s-Carving-Block-drukplaten.html

I agree. The carver in question has a thriving Etsy business... over 3000 sales. Hard to believe she could could do that with cheap, crumbly crap.

Those are really nice stamps! And I see they ship from Spain, so it would fit with the European blue carving material listed above. Interesting!

I haven't tried it either! And I've tried most! Nobody imports Factis to the US?

So since we seem to have come to the conclusion that this ISN'T the Blue Crumbly stuff, is it safe to say that, as the old saying goes...
"Factis stronger than friction" ?

Factis may not sell carving material stateside, but they do sell erasers.

http://www.erasersworld.com/eng/factis.htm

Maybe somebody can get ahold of the importer and talk him into bringing over some carving slabs with the next shipment.

You need a second suitcase to bring back a whole load... Seriously, I'd pay for some too.

Unless I’m missing something, that link goes to a collectors site. I couldn’t find anywhere to order. Also it appears it might be a Russian site. There’s an email address, I’ll write her and see what I can find out.

Update: my email server would not allow me to send an email to the address she has listed. Plus it’s an .ru suffix - definitely Russian.

The ‘Other’ Blue stuff update

Thread
Over in the other blue stuff thread:
https://www.atlasquest.com/boards/read.php?threadId=141384&startId=972833

It was determined that the carving material is Factis.
https://www.gerstaecker.nl/FACTIS-Artist-s-Carving-Block-drukplaten.html

In my search to find some of it, I contacted the senior product manager at BLICK artist supplies since they already carry other Factis products. She is looking into the possibility of adding it to their product line.

There was a carving material that people were going crazy for a while back from Etsy that came in different colors blue/purple ... I had some blue that was wonderful--not the speedball stuff that's nasty. I can't remember the name we were using, but there is a good blue material out there somewhere, very solid & no crumbles. It's similar to the sandwich stuff, but I liked the solid colors better.

I just googled 'carving material' and about the 5th picture over shows the stuff that I think I used.

The stuff from SweetLoveQiner (which we nicknamed SLQ) was popular for a while, and we found that colors -- notably green -- carved better than white. I think it's 8mm thick. But the stuff from Japan called Seed because that's the only recognizable word in English on the package is far better, but a bit expensive from most sources because shipping is outrageous. I think it's 11mm thick. Webfoot got some Seed in to help defray shipping costs from Japan, so stampeaz.com is the place to look for it.

So I bought a piece and had it shipped to me for quite a pretty penny. Without having opened the package, it looks *just like* the pink stuff but a different colour - to the point if someone told me it was the same formulation under a different brand name/colour, I'd believe it.

I plan to carve some up and I'll post a review soon...
