I carry most of that other stuff, too, but the one that makes the difference around here is to have a couple bottles of water, one in each coat pocket. It's not for me ~ a thin stream of cold water thaws frozen things quickly (like shrimp, for instance) and can usually free a box that's frozen to the ground.

Ok, so we don't get much snow in San Francisco (lol), but I'm fascinated by the shrimp you have on letterboxes in snow country!

a (plastic) trowel, a small hammer (to dislodge rocks frozen in), a spare box (for cases Rocklun cites, though haven't need it yet), spare towel, extra dog treats.

When the box is encased in ice (usually the case when its in the crotch of a tree, its hopeless, and I just log it as a find (its there!), and move on.

Especially if the box was cracked!!

So for the love of all that is decent, people, please replace those cracked boxes to prevent the "natural hot liquid" aficionados from traumatizing future finders!!!

I do a lot of LTC's and have so many stamps piling up. If you are interested in planting some of my stamps in your home state, please AQ mail me and let me know how many and what your address is. It's OK if I have sent to you before. :-) Just want to get these babies out into the world.
Jenn
PS. Serious planters please. I don't want my stamps sitting around in your drawers for years. :-)

I think Maine could host a few of your images if there are any still available. Especially any that may coincide with event themes here in Maine this year.

I can find some plant spots for a few more of your stamps. I think the other series you sent me have a finder or two.

I'm sure I could find a few great spots here in PA or even MD or WV to plant your stamps. Let me know if you have any left.

My friend Huckleberry Flynn and I would be happy to find some cozy homes in CT and RI for some of your stamps! We go 'boxing every Friday pending the weather, so they wouldn't have to wait long. :)

You may want to check out some of these places: http://www.exploreri.org/gtraillist.php. Two things to keep in mind when you're planting:

  • Make sure you don't plant in a location that expressly forbids letterboxes. For example, all of the RI Audubon sanctuaries forbid letterboxes, as described on this page.

  • Check AQ and LbNA to see which other boxes are already planted at these locations to make sure you're not planting too close to someone else's box.

Good luck!

I enjoy finding a box that has some amount of relevance to the place it's planted. So, depending on what your stamp/box theme is, it might affect the spot you choose. Things to consider include local terrain, landscape, urban (zoos, museums, parks with unique features), lookout with a view, known landmarks, historical markers, or points of interest, etc.

Disney/Orlando Boxes?

So from a quick search I see that there USED to be boxes in Disney World that are no longer there (seems pretty brave to attempt a plant there anyhow!). I'd love to hear that dramatic story if anyone wants to tell it. ;)

But anyhow, family and I are going to Disney and Universal in April. Wondering what some of your favorite boxes in the area are. Ideally, I'd love to find a public park outside Disney that has a Disney themed series or something.

They just had a Theme Park themed gather in Clermont (which is NW of Disney) a couple of weeks ago. Perhaps the boxes are still out?
