May I just 2nd (or 3rd or 4th) all of these wonderful AQ wishes to these 2 letterboxes who make my letterboxing world better? Honestly, letterboxing in the midwest is the best because of you two.

Does such a letterbox as WKRP..."As God is my witness I thought Turkeys could fly" already exist in Cincinnati exist? Would anybody living in that area be interested in planting/adopting one?

That was sooo funny. I could barely keep myself together when I was describing the episode to my daughter who had never heard of the show. That one and the one about Les's enemy tornadoes.

We live about 1.5 hrs away & would gladly plant a WKRP box-probably in Spring Grove for more exposure-if someone wanted to carve 1?? Alas our carver has wrist problems so no stamps coming out of the R-Gang camp at this time

Hey, franzsolo here. I was just browsing the boards and found this subject.
I started letterboxing in November of 2001.Went back and forth with flyfisher in Dayton Ohio.
My first plant was "pigs" but have no record of where I planted the box.
My first find was "Fort Ancient" by Polly.
My 1st attempt was Nov 5th 2001 It took me three tries ! I asked Polly for a hint but would NOT give me a brake ! :)

All these plants and finds were under "LETTERBOXING NORTH AMERICA" not Atlas Quest.
I joined AQ a few years later.
I had tons of fun meeting Ohio letterboxers . Finding great places to plant and hike also.
I really miss everybody due to there is not much boxing activity out here in the Northwest. But I do have a journal full of great stamped memories !!!
Hope everyone is doing well,

franzsolo...

You are so missed! If you ever make it back to Ohio let us know. I miss chasing your boxes the day you planted them, lol.

Most of my finds for those first years were yours. I might just give those old ones out there a shot. I love a challenge!

Was looking at the boxes in southern Ohio, there’s a few there but I also noticed that they have not been found at all, one of them being mine, or not in quite a while. Are there not any Lboxers in that area? We were in a beautiful park at the KY stateline.

The SW corner of Ohio tends to a bit more active than the SE right now. I know I haven't been out that way in several years, primarily because my boxing time is so limited that I tend to stick close to home or go where there is a larger density of boxes for me.

Thank you for planting there! We have lots of wonderful boxers in Ohio and I feel like we are all starting to box more again. You must have hit a down time; hopefully the drought is ending :)

Hoping with the emptying of my nest next fall, I might be able to get out and about a bit more!!

Calling Ohio Boxers--It's Time for Bingo!
Board: State: Ohio
Dec 21, 2019 5:17pm
I posted this already on the Region: Great Lakes board, but I just want to make sure the word gets out.

Get ready to play the latest edition of the longest Bingo game in the world, Great Lakes Letterboxing Bingo! Based on boxers, boxes, and events in the six Great Lakes states from the traditional Yahoo Great Lakes board (OH, MI, WI, MN, IL, and IN), the game is open to anyone who would like to join in the fun.

The game start Jan. 1 and continues with one word called per day. A great way to stay connected to letterboxing and letterboxers thru the winter.

Interested? Just send me your email address in a private AQ message, and I'll send you out your 2020 bingo grid, word list, and rules. No commitment!

Amen to so many comments here including that the original plants were listed on Letterboxing North America. I didn't jump over to AQ for quite a while (and glad I did)! I vaguely recall that there were only about 50 plants in Ohio when I first started. All of you guys in the southern part of Ohio started just before me and there was a guy up in the Cleveland area. Bay Area Boxer??? Not sure. I can't remember who the person was who planted some in central Ohio but the plants then we're few and far between and if you got 3 in one entire day or weekend it gave you bragging rights!!! Beyond grateful I stumbled upon this addiction, to Ryan and mister moose for AQ and for all the friends, finds and adventures along the way!!! ❤️🌳🥾❤️🧭🌲

I would disagree. While the PNW may not be the boxing hot spot it once was, there are still many active boxers in the area who continue to plant new boxes. I plan on a trip to priest point park in Olympia tomorrow where a bunch have been planted in 2019, including one of my own and SN Bones’ box of the month. So take a look at the search function and get back out there!

And sorry to barge in on the Ohio board.

Franz,

You are the entire reason that I have so enjoyed this hobby. My first MANY finds were yours. And you and I had fun planting and seeing who would be the first to find it (sometimes within the day of planting). And, you would leave me gifts - like the Snowman mug. I was so sad when you moved to the Northwest. And, it was so nice to meet you in person at my then local Starbucks.

I am happy to hear that you are well and still hunting.

Hello all! I have been lurking in the background for a LOOOOOONG time. Mostly work and kids slowed me down...that and other hobbies. Well, there is time enough at last with being shut down for six weeks. (Those of you that know me know that I am a teacher.)

Soooo, I have been revisiting old hobbies. Getting back to projects long ago set aside for 'when I had more time'. I feel I have been given that time!! SO! look for some new boxes to be planted and old boxes to be brought out of retirement in the very near future! I have two stamps carved and ready to go in boxes (and a nice stash of lock-n-lock boxes set aside!), and two old plants that I am dusting off (literally!!) and re-planting soon. PLUS I have ideas form more stamps and carving material too!

I now live in Randolph county, where there are few boxes planted. I feel this is in good proximity to Greenville (hello Greenville friends!), and Wayne county (Hey Speedsquare!). So I hope to lure you out of hiding and in to nature! The CDC is still recommending getting out and taking walks! (Just stay 6 feet away from other trail-seekers!)

Love and health to all,
Idhunna

I saw your FB post and I am ready to go out. DH is still "essential" at school and I am locked out of the gym and my mother and brother's facility in Indy. Taxes are done and now I'm clearing out old electronic files preparing for a new computer. Luckily I have some carving material still and lots of paper to make logbooks.

Our neighbors and I have put bears in our windows for all those who want to go on a bear hunt. Even my fiber-challenged sister is thinking about taking up knitting.

I should get out and check on my Indiana boxes!
