The folks at the desk are always so nice when we drop in to do our thing.

Just a heads up to those out and about in the Hooksett, NH area. A timber rattlesnake was found in Hooksett. If you hear a rattle while poking for a letterbox, note the area and notify fish and game of the location. These are endangered and should be left to the professionals to handle.

Be safe out there!

Just a heads-up; there have been some major changes to the trees where several boxes were planted.
The trees are gone.
Hundreds of trees removed.

I wonder if they cut down trees to sell the wood? Some cemeteries do that to raise money.

could be, nary a stump left behind.
or maybe making room for more residents.

we made one try to see if we could find remnants of a box left behind.
without even a stump we couldn't make an educated guess.

Seems that my Picture NH box is one of the casualties. It had a good number of visitors in its short stay there and for that I'm grateful.

I'm heading to Hampton Falls next weekend and looking on AQ for letterboxes, can I assume that all the Wakeda boxes are no longer available and the status was not changed, or they may not be accessible to the public? THANKS

There are some planted in the area that are permanent - look for plants by either me or BettyBoop3 that are still active - those are the only ones I can say for sure. But anything listed at Wakeda itself besides the 2 permanent ones they allowed us to leave should not actually still be active.

Andover has the same problem. I really wish those that insist on listing event boxes as traditional boxes would at least retire them at the end of the event!!

I think it's safe to assume anything listed as inside the camp is no longer there. This subject as come up before but no one seems to take the hint.

If you bring a traditional box that is just planted for an event and then take it home, retire it. This seems to be true of all events, not just Wakeda. Most people seem to not bother.

For both Wakeda and Harold Parker, I make judicious use of the "ignore box" feature to remove all those temporary plants from my list so the no longer show on my searches.

I can wish that more folks would remember to clear their listings, but I wouldn't hold my breath for that to happen.

Maybe Ryan can force-retire all boxes with the address of "Lorraine Park Campground, 133 Jenkins Rd, Andover, MA" along with whatever address is used for Wakeda.

It's because of those "missing" that I refused to attend both events. I had never even entered Harrold Parker until this summer.

The Grateful event is just an amazing event. Thanks to The Merry Pranksters, Muddy Paws, Zess the Treehuggers and all the other admins for never failing to provide something for everyone and being the most gracious hosts!!!
That is the beauty of this hobby. To each their own.

harold parker has so many permanent boxes it would probably take you numerous trips into the depths of the forest to find them all. well worth it, i might add.

Amazing event or not, and lots of events are amazing.....people should still retire boxes they took home with them. The fact that it's amazing really doesn't figure into that.

Just sayin'.

Uneksia is one of our original boxing members from New Hampshire.
Her great grandson was recently born with Spina Bifida. On Sat. 10/26 there will be a carnival held with the proceeds going to help the baby's family. If you live in or around Berwick, Maine you could go support the cause and have fun at the same time. There is also a
GoFundMe page set up for donations. Link below is for carnival info and there is a GoFundMe link on that page. Won't you help, please?

i have been slacking in my thanks to sagacorn for posting and the community for donating!

i would like to thank you all for your kindness.

maverick is almost a month now. he has undergone 3 surgical procedures and has come out a trooper. he will most likely be paralyzed from the waist down. his parents (no prejudice here honest!) are amazing. they want maverick to experience life with no limits to his ability to enjoy whatever he is able to do. they have a long road ahead of them and it will be draining emotionally and financially. the hardest part is staying in boston during treatments. there is an unbelievably long waiting list at the ronald mcdonald house. again i thank you. the letterboxing community rules!
