Aren't they cool? I had never heard of love tokens before and found them fascinating! They kind of remind me of pathtags!

You know, the more I look at the different carved images on these love tokens, the more I think this would make a great LTC tracker!!! Anyone interested in hosting one? I'm already hosting a couple of swaps and don't want to host any more until the spring.

Hey! You didn't mention that I was with you and that it was the first time either if us has seen a falcon!! (Which was super fun for me, not just b/c of seeing the falcon, but also to be with Pete--a knowledgable bird guy--for his first time spotting one!!) :-)

I have one that was passed down from my great grandmother to my grandmother and then me. It is a one dollar gold coin and was engraved with the dates of birth of the first two Amanda's 1871 and 1891. I have it now on a charm bracelet.

That's really neat (and interesting about the multiple Amandas). I'd love to see a picture!

You didn't mention that I was with you

While searching out the "Birds of Breakheart" in Saugus on this BEAUTIFUL fall day, we
spied a Peregrine Falcon perched on the Pearce Lake island!

We would be "Me and my favorite treehugger", out for a hike on a GORGEOUS New England fall day!

and that it was the first time either if us has seen a falcon!! (Which was super fun for me, not just b/c of seeing the falcon, but also to be with Pete--a knowledgable bird guy--for his first time spotting one!!) :-)

YUP - First time ever! It was actually the different call which I heard that first peaked my interest. I'm glad we had binoculars in the BOTH backpacks, and we were lucky that it stayed perched for so long that we could get a great ID on it. I'm THRILLED that you were there with me to see it!!! ;o)

Wow! What an awesome find and so very interesting. So they sanded the back of a coin smooth and that was their canvas, but what kind of tool did they use to do such a fine detail?

What will you do with the letter? Keep it? Give to a civil war museum?

I wondered the same thing and found this:

Despite differences in technique, the tools used to execute the engravings are relatively the same. The process is most often done by hand, using tools called gravers that come in a variety of shapes and sizes for different purposes. The length, width or depth of each engraving depends on the particular graver used and the amount of pressure applied.

What will you do with the letter? Keep it? Give to a civil war museum?

I'm pretty sure that no Civil War museum would want it... :^)

OK, I've been going to Cape Cod for years to box. There are some boxes that I've been unable to find in the Yarmouth (W, S, Port area....and no one else has been able to either for quite a while). Is there anyone who officially knows if any of these are missing?

I've seen the ones that hang out in downtown Worcester.

Ooooh, I know where that is!

There was one that lived in the empty mill building where I used to live. Would see it's "left overs" (pile of feathers) every once in a while.

Sorry, I don't know the "official" status of any of these boxes. But I can tell you that A Midsummer's Eve gave me quite a challenge but I did find it after a good bit of doing. It was very well hidden so my guess is that it is still there but just tucked away so far due to a couple years of decay, weather, and growth that it is very difficult to find. Good luck.

I have found most of them in the past. I will say, Crow is one that we had to go back for a couple of times . . . and was worth it! I am pretty sure the first two are missing. I will check it out and chat with you about them Friday.

If so, you're in luck! nosox and I replanted this series at the actual High Ledges Sanctuary on Friday. We kept the same listing but renamed it slightly and (obviously) updated the clues to match this gorgeous location! :^)
