A Walk In The Woods
Board: State: Maine
Jul 13, 2019 3:00pm
This box was planted in 2011 and still no finders. At the time it was planted, many Maine Boxers were musing about nice walks in the woods. While this box is listed as a 4 mile hike, there are other directions to this box out there if someone wants to look. :-) It’s barely more than a drive by. Happy Boxing.

I have received notice of several of my Zip Code boxes as having gone missing. I found two out of three today that were exactly where they needed to be. This series still has a few boxes out there. Happy Boxing

I tried searching box name “zip code” and came up empty. How can I find them? I’m only in coastal Maine for a week each year so I may not be able to search but thought I’d ask!

If you look at my logbook alphabetically you can see them. They are listed individually not as a series.

You can also do a search with the box name as # and the planter as Robins Nest.

The name of each one is the actual zip code. A person would have to look in planters logbook or know a location to search the area of. Or know what zip codes to look for.

They are listed by zip code number. You could do a search using the zip code of the towns you are visiting.

I live nearby in Woolwich! I will try to remember to come up with a list. I have to do research and remember what was temporary for an event, what was permanent, etc. Doesn't help that I am terrible at labeling, so I have to rely on memory too. Believe it or not, I haven't boxed as much around here and still have some I have to go after. Events have been where I have been getting my ink in the past few years.

Sorry, I don't have much input. I haven't been there in years, and when I did the boxes I did were not in walking distance of the cruise port.

Hi! Happy Cruising! Happy Boxing! I have done both together, even Mark and Sue have put together Boxing Cruises! I am hoping a Maine Boxer will show their hospitality by offering to meet you that morning you arrive in Bar Harbor and take you to a few boxes! Remember, your ship should be bringing fresh Maine Lobbies onboard for that night's Lobster Dinner. You might want to check.

As for Boxing if no Mainer volunteers to be your escort, I suggest you search for boxes in the Bar Harbor, Mount Desert Island (MDI), Sommesville, and just over the bridge in Trenton. You could hire a cab and explain what you are doing, we always get a reduced rate of about $50 for a couple hours (Alaska, San Francisco, Vancouver, Aruba...) Considering the cost of Ship Excursions, $50-75 is a bargain. I really prefer the real personal touch of having a Letterboxer Tour Guide to help you. I will be on a RCCL heading for Bermuda on your Bar Harbor Day, or I would drive the two hours to be your guide. Remember to look for boxes that have been found recently. Remember to bring one for planting! Is your ship stopping at Portland? If so, you can message SeaGull or DownEast Cowboy for some suggestions.

Also, don’t forget to check www.letterboxing.org for boxes. There used to be a box that was walkable from where your Tender brings you in. It was on an island that you are able to walk to during low tide. I don’t remember the name of the box, it wasn’t on AQ when I just searched. At one time the island had 3 boxes, so maybe they are on LBNA. They may be long gone also. I have boxes on a gorgeous trail in Trenton but won’t recommend them as I haven’t checked them since 2016 and one has been noted as unfindable. I hope this helps you! Feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions. Happy Boxing!

Thanks Robins Nest, that’s very helpful and I appreciate it. Not going on to Portland. I will have a box to plant in Bar Harbor. It’s been a few years since I’ve been there but hopefully I can find a long lasting spot.
Happy Trails

Bar Harbor Lobster Company has a great lobster roll, among other lobster choices. Crafty Lobster lives just down the road and works just across the street at the hospital.

With all the increased cruise business in Bar Harbor someone should put a box within easy walking distance. I think I'll take a look nearby the Portland cruise ship terminal. I know there were some boxes there but need to check and see if they are still there. The lovely late Sewsewbusy did plant a few when she was here on a cruise years back.

Hi Seagull,
I plan to do that very thing if I can find an appropriate placement.

I know this was a few years ago and Mudding might be able to fill this in better but now that Brunswick Naval Air is now closed and changed it to being a public place is that air port open to everyone or is it a business/hobbyist airport? I am not sure how it works.

Im in Bangor once to twice a year but the problem is I have to wait 3 hours before we can do family day and dont know my way around Bangor well. I can get to the airport and the NOSC and that is it.. Does any one know if any of the roads with boxes planted are on the route from the airport to where Hickory Dickory Decks is? I dont w ant to get lost in Bangor and having a list of boxes in that specific area would be h elpful since I have the kids with me and would make a great way to entertain them.
