Upcoming trip... seeking boxes & cool spots
Board: State: Indiana
Mar 17, 2019 5:54pm
Any off the beaten path interesting spots (odd, interesting, unique etc...)
In southeastern Indiana?
Also looking for "do not miss" boxes.

Will be visiting northern Kentucky (Creation museum) & will only have a day of rambling. We love to go junking/antiquing, photography, fun interesting spots for young teens etc...
Any suggestions are appreciated!

Anyone else heading out tomorrow? The weather is supposed to be much nicer -- less humid and cooler.

We are going to hunt for some very old plants and "never found" boxes. My plates are quite remarkable, so you might find us.

Enjoy the weekend!

A couple of years ago I was in Indianapolis. Someone gave me a beautiful stamp of Bobby Kennedy. I have been waiting for the perfect spot to plant it. Next week I will be in Washington DC and thought what a perfect place to plant. Now, I cannot find the piece of paper that had the carvers name on it. I want to give him credit. Please help.

Geez, more than a couple of years, I was there in October, 2014. Just sent TAP an email. Anyway, if it is yours, I will give you credit. Love the stamp. I wanted to find the perfect spot for it. Las Vegas, NV is not the spot. If I knew how to put a picture on here I would.

I plan to check on all the boxes at Lincoln SP in two weeks while my kids are on fall break. I have been getting reports about missing boxes. I may move things around, be sure to double check the clues if you head that way in a few weeks.

It was an enjoyable way to spend a beautiful fall day with the trees in full color. Everything was very well organized and top notch. The clues were very clear, the food was tasty, and the fellowship is always fun. A special thanks goes to the organizers and to all the carvers.

I posted this already on the Region: Great Lakes board, but I just want to make sure the word gets out.

Get ready to play the latest edition of the longest Bingo game in the world, Great Lakes Letterboxing Bingo! Based on boxers, boxes, and events in the six Great Lakes states from the traditional Yahoo Great Lakes board (OH, MI, WI, MN, IL, and IN), the game is open to anyone who would like to join in the fun.

The game start Jan. 1 and continues with one word called per day. A great way to stay connected to letterboxing and letterboxers thru the winter.

Interested? Just send me your email address in a private AQ message, and I'll send you out your 2020 bingo grid, word list, and rules. No commitment!
St. Louis, Evansville, IN, KY all in one day.....

OK, MO/IL/IN peeps! On Friday, I'm driving from St. Louis, to Evansville IN, into KY, and back through Herod, IL (hoping to get to the Garden of the Gods). It's supposed to be raining/snow showers. Should I be worried about my trek on Friday with snow coming Thursday night? It's all highway until KY, and then state roads through to Garden of the Gods (I am especially worried about this part of the trip.... mountains, snow.... 😳). Thoughts?

That would be a really neat trip if you're able to do it, but, yes, I'd keep an eye on what the weather does on Thursday and what it looks like it will do on Friday. The roads around Garden of the Gods are pretty curvy and hilly and may be a problem if there is much snow, though I don't know exactly. I've been on them after dark in dry weather and had some regrets, especially when my GPS kept trying to take me on gravel access roads.

Weather in this area is incredibly changeable. It seems like predictions are never completely accurate because weather systems can shift a little north or south and things will change dramatically. If anything, a bunch of snow will mean you won't make very good time, and it's a lot of driving.

I'm hoping to go to St. Louis on Friday to do some boxing, so I'll also be checking the weather often in the next couple days to try to decide what I'll do. :/

Our weather in St Louis/Southern, IL is iffy at best this time of year. The temp can hover around freezing, and change from rain to snow to ice in a few minutes. Last week we had one day with a bad forecast, and they called off schools, and nothing happened except rain. The Garden of the Gods is beautiful in the other 3 seasons. If the weather is bad, they may not even plow the parking area. Patches of ice could remain on the trails, and make spots dangerous. Unless you like to live on the edge, I would suggest staying close to the main roads. There are an abundance of wonderful letterboxes in both St Louis and Evansville areas. Save the beautiful scenery for another visit. If the weather cooperates, we do have Forest Park in St Louis City and the Laumeier Sculpture Park in St Louis County, which have interesting boxes and are scenic in their own way. Maybe the sun will shine.

BB, please be careful in unfamiliar territory, especially in bad weather! Not that I've been to this area, but your safety is more important than finding the boxes :-) Hopefully you're not going alone either....
Enjoy the gathering in St Louis, and be safe!
