It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas has moved from Lilburn to Marietta. When we moved it this morning we also discovered a great farmers market. Marietta Square Farmers Market

Hi all,

So we have finally decided to tackle the seemingly infinite supply of boxes at the Park. Today, our first attempt at a box with a stamp we knew would be spectacular was a bust, the box was missing! Does anyone have some suggestions for good boxes or series that we should look for? Nothing too strenuous, please. Our 2yo isn't up to long hikes yet.

Thanks!

Stone Mountain isn't an easy place to letterbox. I'd recommend looking for boxes on the Songbird Trail. It's a nice hike, not too strenuous, and the clues are more directions than clues.

Especially since I have 2 boxes on the Songbird trail! :)

I also recommend making a list of the drive by ones, and just pick a few of those at a time. Boxing with a small child isn't easy, and SMP has some long trails and climbing involved. The ones by the Carillon and the ones by the Mill are neat. The Carillon has a HHH. The ones by the mill with picture clues, might be fun for him to find the different shaped stones. Plus, no hills.

Have fun, I really love SMP, but just really have to do research and categorize them by areas. Print all the ones with picture clues, and see if you happen to see them. I've been there 3 times, and still only found 25 or so boxes there. They are spread out and the clues aren't always easy. The Top of the Rock boxes gave me some trouble, so many rocks to look under!

thanks for the advice! We will check out songbird trail. Are there any on the covered bridge island? We hiked all the way around yesterday. Our boys are pretty experienced with hiking. I don't think we are ready for the around the mountain trail or the trail to the top yet but once he gets a few months older we should be good to go. We are pretty experienced letterboxers too.

We also looked for MK's Seven Lucky Gods box but it isn't there anymore. I'm sad because their boxes top out my list of favorites.

Time for a self appreciating plug: Of Mice and Men: The Series. One on the covered bridge and one near the Song Bird Habitat. But you might try to get box #5. But too many to start to name favorites.

Is the guide link from the past LBSE gatherings at SMP still accessible? That might provide some good data.

For an all around guide, go to Eidolon's profile page, scroll down to "Letter boxing guide to Stone Mountain" and click the link. More info than you can shake a hiking stick at.

It is still accessible, but hasn't been updated for a while. It's still a good starting place, but will need to be used along with checking to see if the boxes are still available.

Stone Mountain Park does require research and foot work before you enter the park... that box that you went looking for was missing but you walk by about 10 boxes to look for it

While that is definitely true, if you are feeling overwhelmed, I would simply recommend you find what seems obvious to you and then at least you can mark some off your list. Even for people who've boxed there many times and have close to half the boxes (me - with family trailname) it is still a bear to tackle and organize clues.

PLUS, by doing so you will start recognizing landmarks and grow familiar with the territory so that other clues begin to make sense.

True that. I am not able to relate since I grew up in that park. It is kind of like having people plant boxes in my back yard over and over...no research required. Just searching. ;)

Just checking to see if there is anyone that might want to camp with me this weekend? Have reservations Fri, Sat and Sun nights at Fort Mt SP (Gwinnett Co is out on Mon). If you don't want to camp but want to box on Fri or Sat....that's good too. Have to be in Chattanooga on Sun and will come home on Monday......my daughter's soccer game is back on for Sat and they weren't so excited about going anyway so.....it's just me!

I'm going to be visiting from Thurs-Sat. I was wondering if there are any boxes I absolutely should find or what any of your personal favorites are :) Also, I tend to be super oblivious. Are there any areas with boxes that I should be more aware of safety? I've only done a tiny bit of boxing in Atlanta before but what I found was great! I cant wait to get back to it.

I hope you enjoy your visit. Decatur is a good place to start. Check out the Decatur cemetery @ 1211 Church street. A number of series are buried...er planted there. Especially look for This Is Not The Zoo (5). Sorry I can't help more. Happy Hunting!

Hi PJ,
I agree with the others, Decatur Cemetery is a great place to look, I have a series there. (shameless plug for "The tools She Used") Seriously, go on my plants, I have a series there and then hit boxes nearby for others there. You can google Decatur Cemetery and print out a cemetery guide with the sections labeled- it helps since you've never been there. There is a walking entrance and a driving entrance, the old section is a little rough, if you car has low clearance, walking is best. (it's also narrow) Going during the day is good, lots of walkers, so you'll have to watch for them. The weather is supposed to be absolutely beautiful while you're here, have a great time.

Does anyone know how to get in touch with B Stitch? I found A Lil TLC which is a letterbox near the grave of Lefteye of TLC. The clue is a great tribute, but the box needs some TLC - the other kind.
