I am hoping to attend the 6th annual southeast gathering in May. I would like to camp also and I know memorial weekend is a busy weekend for camping, so I was hoping to get a site soon. I have never been there before and was hoping for some tips for camping there. Is there a place I should avoid? Is there some place everyone usally camps? Do a lot of people camp there from the event? All help will be great!! Thanks

A *warning* if any of you have boxes or caches-Comet Trail

I know we have one, but I think somebody else has a couple of boxes along the Comet Trail?? I just wanted to put a warning out there that there have been now quite a few attacks on the trail and some people are not longer using it. Seems to be breeding ground for crappy people-which is a shame. I know we don't feel safe on it in many areas any longer. Just wanted to put out a warning for anybody who had boxes there---

Keep in mind that it IS now legal to carry a weapon in Georgia if you are properly licensed.

If these hoodlums get wind of people shooting back, they'll go away. One of your cronies ending up D.R.T. is a significant deterrent.

Please, if you have not already, put a warning in the clues of your box so people will know before they search for it.

Hot off the press.

Important to note that the Wild Horse Trail is practically in people's backyards, whereas much of the Silver Comet Trail is a bit removed, though not much.

Yes, but sadly, that's not the only attack. There have been several in Paulding Co in areas 'less seedy' and even on crowded parts. Just the other evening in Hiram-there was an attack on a woman again on the trail. We no longer feel comfy taking our kids out on the trail-which is sad.

Yes, sadly. That's the only one the AJC let me get to without signing in.

Again, I state what I said earlier, with amendments:

Keep in mind that it IS now legal to carry a firearm in Georgia if you are properly licensed. The purpose of carrying such a weapon is self-defense. Self defense against people like this.

If these hoodlums get wind of people packin' heat their survival instinct should kick in and they'll go somewhere else. One of your cronies ending up wounded, or better yet, D.R.T., is a significant deterrent.

(D.R.T. = Dead Right There)

I've hiked the Wild Horse Trail and parts of the Silver Comet. I've also hiked a parts of Rock Creek Trail in Washington, D.C. Oddly enough... I felt safer in D.C. than I do in many places around Atlanta.

There are cops all over that city, Rock Creek Park has police patrols on horseback and call boxes are everywhere.

Maybe Sonny oughta use some of the Godforsaken "stimulus" money and improve security on the Silver Comet: surveillance cameras, police on souped-up golf carts, lighting...

Funny, yes, but true. Most of the golf carts you see driving around in Peachtree City are your standard electric models that top out at 14 mph. I can go faster than that on a bicycle. Some gas-powered models can go 20 mph.

But there are a few out there that are ridiculously fast -- for a golf cart.

Hmm... So the other day...
I went to go try out this country restaurant I've never been to before. I got a veggie plate... well cause... I LOVE my veggies. I got some turnip greens, mac n' cheese, and a squash/zucchini soufflé. I knew bacon was going to be in it so when I got the plate I just started diggin' it out unto another plate. Then. Into my mouth the turnip greens went. Yummy :)

A minute later...
ATLfunk was looking at the bacon.

Another minute later...
ATLfunk thinking: Hmm. That piece of bacon (among the other pieces of bacon) looks like an insect. He takes a second look.
ATLfunk says: Did you know there was a cricket in your turnip greens?
me: O . O
me: o_O
me: WHAT!?
me: Where? Let me see.
ATLfunk grabs the cricket with a napkin.
me: WAIT! WAIT! No. I don't want to see it!!!!!!
I was completely grossed out. I completely lost my apetitite. And for some reason. I was embarrassed that I didn't notice in the first place and was stuffing my face with turnip greens.

I thought: I think I'll go throw up now. I'm not Andrew Zimmer.

It would have better (?) to find some jewlery at least!

I found the tip of a rubber glove in a salad once...I tried not to think about it too much, 'cause if they cut the glove I didn't want to think about what else they cut! Ew!

But we got our meals and drinks for free! I never have gone back to that restaurant, however.

Just a quick update to all of our Georgia 'boxing homies who have been so helpful and supportive.

I've been out training with Werner Enterprises for about 3 and a half weeks. My trainer is on a dedicated account with Dollar General. We operate out of a distribution center in Scottsville KY and have delivered (and occasionally picked up merchandise) in KY, TN, GA, AL, and IN. I'd actually rather do regional, drop-and-hook, deliveries when I'm on my own, rather than spending so much time on little windy roads and unloading cartons for store managers who are all p'ed off because the system sends them more stuff than they have stock room for. But that's OK.

Anyhow...I had previously stated my ultimate plan to get with someone who does "local" deliveries, like a FedEx, UPS, Sysco, or local version thereof, and which would be much more of a five-days-a-week, home-every-night deal. To that end, before I headed out, Big Red reminded me that Publix had a big distribution center near her. I'd really, really appreciate to know if any of you in the greater Athens or east-of-Atlanta area know of anybody or any place that I should get in touch with after I'm done training and can lay claim to some "experience."

This is the first time I've been online since Feb 3, and I'm not sure when I'll be able to get on again, so if you don't hear from me right away please don't think that I don't really appreciate all of your suggestions. Thank so much!!!
