On my phone, I use MAPS.ME which allows me to save state maps on the SD card and therefore not have to download data every time I want to use it. This is helpful out in the woods where I can't get reception.

I've also started using MAPS.ME for hiking because it works great off line and there already a lot of major trails in their system (unlike Google Maps). You can create a Google MyMap with parking, trails, LB locations, etc., export that as a kml, then email the kml file to yourself. Open it up on your phone, and everything is right there. You don't need to have cell service for it to work. For some of the longer distance trails, it's come in quite handy.

if you select the Share button (little square with arrow curved to the right) and then select Download, the OSM map you see on the computer screen will be downloaded to your computer and will be opened with the program you have on your computer that reads png files.

That's the little square with arrow curved to the right on the toolbar at the right edge of the screen.

The default is png, but you can change it to jpg if you prefer. The image it brings up is printable in Irfanview.

check out Flopps Maps for one of the best online tools for simple mapping (that I know of, but really I have not tried that many, I just like this one)
you can switch between google maps, google sat, OSM, and a couple others. You can drop and label multiple pins. cannot do routes.

Had a long day of running around with life today... but found a bit of time to try that tutorial again... and yes I found a small trap... but this time I was a bit more awake than this morning and was successful at creating a long list...

The bit I missed was what he was copying and pasting into the notepad...
You have to copy the URL in the top line... connection or whatever... the one that shows where you are or want to go... where you can type the URL...
first the original map URL and then the second Map URL... to allow for errors, I made a third Map... URL... and did the cut and splicing into that one (only so I could back up and not have to start over...) You only need the string of place names... leaving out the one that is a duplicate... then clean up the line by fixing anything else duplicated or omitted... like slash marks between...
Then you copy the URL (all of map three) and paste it into Gmaps in that line and there is your extended route... actually simple but was confusing since I was just copying the names in the lists... and spicing that... no good... small goof.

I did about eighteen names... will play some more but read this and watch the video again and it will make sense... it's all stored in the line... not the list.

Thanks! Glad you were able to make it work. I'll have to give it another try next time I go cemetery boxing. That's usually when I want to do that, jumping from one cemetery to the next.
