I can actually answer this one. Go to Preferences and click on the box that says you want to be notified if new mail arrives. I had an email waiting for me on Yahoo when I got home today that there was new mail on AQ.

It't great to have a place to keep my finds recorded, and to see what boxes others have planted or found. I'm enjoying everything about Atlas Quest, but especially the fact that when I search for a box, it tells me when it was last found and what other boxes are nearby. I have a list of 5 that we're going to try for tomorrow morning. Scooter will be at Wills Park tomorrow afternoon competing in agility.

How long has the trip planner been on AQ? I just noticed it and have been having fun locating the letterboxes between here and Jacksonville, Fl. We're going in January and planning to look for a few on our way home.

That would be great but we have no choice in the timing. Courtney has meetings Thurs, Fri and Sat. Scooter and I are just "hitching" a ride and will try our hand/paw at solo boxing for the few in Jacksonville.

Thanks to Red's Bunch putting all the Athens boxes on AQ, we got interested in that area and are heading out 316 today with a stack of clues and a map to see how many we can find. I know some are missing, but there are quite a few that are listed as still being active.

Quote You can see the hobby of letterboxing throughout the movie and thankfully it is never mentioned by name. There is an interesting scene on what to do if you forget your stamp pad at a box (no more said as you need to see the movie <vbg>).

We also thought it was a lot of fun. Another scene mentions a way of coding clues that I hadn't heard of before. I went home and immediately solved the last part of VictoriAnna's The Pine Tree Shilling.

Quote we found ourselves in Athens today unexpectedly - Is Bear Hollow still out of commission? We found hidey hole, but no box. Remembered there was an older post, but didn't remember status. Just wondering. thanks.

Bear Hollow is still out of commission. The log book is dry, but some of the stamps are faded and smeared, and some bled through to the next page, (bzmom's, the C team, and JMC are not visible, and Gardening Granny's is very faint) but you can still see most of them, and it has a new box since the original one had a badly cracked top. We hope to put it back in place very soon. We only had time to find about half of the Athens boxes on our last trip and the Botanical Gardens was closed for the Thanksgiving weekend so we want to go when they are open.

I just finished reading about VictoriAnna's tea party and enjoying the photos that were posted. It sounds like you had a lot of fun. I was sorry we had to miss it. We got back from FL last night and want to report that the Atlas Quest trip planner was a great help. Thanks Ryan!

On the way there we got Jaguar, but didn't have time to stop for any others. While in Jacksonville we found the Tower Trail and the Bald Cypress. Bald Cypress was planted 3/1/98 so we were very impressed that it was still there. Both locations were nice trails and good hiding places.

On the way home we stopped by Valdosta, Moultrie (only got two of the four boxes there), Tifton, Ashburn, Cordele, Byron, and Jackson. We couldn't find Flutter By 475 but hope it's still there and that we were just not looking in the right place. The others are all there, safe, and in good shape. It made it a fun trip home.

I'll have to remember that when we make it up to Cherokee County.

I went to the basement link and then had to join the yahoo basement group to see the boxes. The owner of Bald Cypress in Jacksonville, FL had mentioned to me that his clues had disappeared from Letterboxing.org and he had to re-post them. I was curious to see if that's what happened to them and did find Bald Cypress in the basement.

Thanks Boxdn. I sent a note to Jeff so hopefully he will let them know that Bald Cypress is still going strong. When I emailed him in Jan. that we found it, he told me he had checked on it the same day and probably not long after we were there. Almost had an exchange on the trail. I keep reading about them but don't have one yet.

I also told him about Atlasquest.

Scooter, the letterboxing Bichon Frise, found a HH at Stone Mountain Park last week called "Boldly Go Hitchhiking Letterbox Capsule". It was a 35mm film canister and was very, very well done.

Quote I can see a valid use for "hunter tracking" are abandoned boxes and clues, which is why if anything were ever implemented, I would want comments, not just "missing". It is sort of like the in between of people who are active and update the clues to say it may be missing versus those who post clues and disappear along with their boxes.

Threre are three boxes that were planted in Norcross, GA by the same person. We tried October 30th and found the first one, Flutter, but couldn't find the other two, Froggy Rock and Ladybug. We contacted the placer but didn't get a response. These are the only three this person planted. They are not posting any new finds on AQ so they may have found a few, planted a few, and then quit.

I thought Flutter was pulled by another letterboxer because the area it was in was being bulldozed the day she was there. It's still listed as being active, last found Nov. 15, 2004. The other two have been missing almost since they were planted. They were planted October 5th and 13th, 2004. They were last found October 15th and 17th. Several people have posted not being able to find them but new letterboxers wouldn't know the history of these boxes, except that they hadn't been found for a long time.

I agree that it would be nice to know if a box was abandoned and missing before going out looking for it. Why keep boxes on the active list that are positively not there.

I used Ryan's "attempted" feature on those two so I wouldn't have to keep having them show when I did a search.

I've read about these only one time. It's a HH, but passed from boxer to boxer. Which is great, if you do a lot of exchanges

I have one of those HH right now, riding in my backpack, waiting for an exchange on the trail, or the next gathering.

I also know of a box in Atlanta that is huge, by far the biggest LB we've even found. It would hold the large HH mentioned and still have lots of room to spare.

Quote So unless you recently just moved those messages into the trash folder the same day you looked in the trash folder, you might see messages more than a month old. But by the next day, they should be gone.

I'll double check the code and make sure that's really happening, at least! =)

My trash is not emptying either. It looks like it's all still there from when the trash option was first made available. Some were sent way more than a month ago. I had gotten lazy about deleting email and used the new archive/trash option as a way of starting to clean out my in box.

Another question is how do we delete mail that's in our sent box? I do like having a sent box because sometimes I couldn't remember when or even if I had sent something or what I'd said. When I posted a new letterbox yesterday (Scooter was on the road again, this time visiting New Manchester), my sent box showed 17 emails to people who had requested notification of new boxes in this area.

Quote Consequently, I set AQ up so photos in the clues don't actually print. Save ink and paper that way. Older browsers that don't support the modern day CSS constructs might print them, but newer browsers won't print it.

Of course, almost as soon as I had that option people started uploading photo clues which made printing the clue much more challenging. =)

I printed the clue and printed the photo that was part of the clue, but that meant they were on two different pages. When I copied and pasted a clue with a photo into a word document the photo pasted too so I could have the clue and the photo on the same page.

Thanks, VictoriAnna for the photo, but I still haven't solved the clue. Maybe when I'm out letterboxing I'll see it. Do I still need to solve the clue, if I find the location? LOL
