So just some feedback based on our experiences in Dartmoor.
We found zero boxes close to the road, most of them are planted around the Tors (of which there are a lot) and rock formations. Although there are quite a number planted inside of bars, restaurants, shops and camping businesses so maybe that is what you are referring to?
When we contacted the woman who "sells" the clue books, she did not ask for proof we'd found 100 boxes. She made it very clear she asked for payment only to cover the cost of the annual printing of the clue books. I'd asked for the next year's book (because of when our fist trip was scheduled) and she accidentally sent me the preceding year's print. When she discovered her error, she immediately sent the correct version before I'd received the first one to know there was an error.....she would not accept payment for the second book (offered to help defray the printing costs).
We hiked, a LOT; although on rainy days during several visits, we did do the drive-bys planted in buildings, etc.
This part is true, we didn't manage to attend an "event" but we did run into a couple of families of boxers who were gracious enough to explain the easy way to find boxes while Dbare (who's an engineeer and therefore to be forgiven) "putters" as the moms put it.
Not entirely but the preponderance of those we found were store bought.
Hopefully people find this information useful.
they have plants close to the road and easy to find, even without clues

they charge for their clue book and you have to prove you've found 100 boxes on the moor first

Why did they make so many of them short strolls instead of long hikes?

apparently so many of the boxes are so easy and convenient to find, you can get your first 100 without clues

I've seen sets with fire tacks used to set up the trail and to note the location of the boxes.
I REALLY enjoyed LCABs set at SOHT the last time we were there.....She set out the boxes with small firefly lights to be looked for to find the boxes.

Question for the fans, Iām planning out a ragged mountain hike, and Iām looking at clueless/silent Dougās Mexican tiles boxes, realizing all the blazes have changed. Does anybody have knowledge of what trails used to be blazed?
Not sure on:

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I don't see why anyone can't post as loving and accepting LGBTQ-friendly persons, as just about every letterboxer I have met generally is.

My new company is sending me to London May 7-10 for some training.
Funny, my company is sending me the week after that. Which I interpret to mean they want me clean up whatever Crazy hijinx Wassa letās loose in England.
Unfortunately, that means I will definitely be too busy to make it out to Dartmoor on this trip.

Yeah. That was kinda my point. Any one of those things has in the past caused kerfluffles. I don't agree/disagree w/ how they do things over there & obviously some info is now outdated. I rather liked the idea of getting 100 finds, too. Not unlike hitting the restriction threshold and seeing new clues. It seems they have very similar habits/issues, though I found the charity bit interesting. Don't mind paying for published logbooks, either. The parallels & differences are equally interesting. Insanely jealous of those who have actually been. I

Now you want us to pay for the pathtags? Nevermind, I'll just go back out an pull the 118 I've planted so far.
It really takes the fun out of prizes when you are expected to pay for them. And why would you want to reorder? This was supposed to be a limited time challenge to receive one...
~ Of course, there are prizes ~
Participants who plant at least ten traditional permanent plants between Nov. 1 and April 30 will receive a Power Planter Patch.
Participants who plant at least 50 traditional permanent plants between Nov. 1 and April 30 will receive a Power Planter Path tag.

Not trying to be difficult or contrary but my understanding is the man who started it in England is now in his 90s and in a pensioner's home.....and I haven't met anyone over there old enough to remember how it was (or wasn't).....the boxers we've met are all relatively young families.
So the point I'm trying to make is that there is no one way to box.....to each his own (as long as the safety and no tearing up the landscape rules are followed).

The point I was making, though I did it with sarcasm.
It is fun doing it my way. And you can do it your way. And those who want to return to the original ways can play it their way.
Let's all just have fun.

I just got an email from my brother this morning. He watched Episode 1 of Season 8 last night. He says it was *awful*.
I dunno... any episode that features Ed Sheeran's face being melted by a dragon can't be ALL bad...

He might be more like 190 years old. I think letterboxing began in 1854.

Haven't been, but I heard that the preponderance there are custom-made. I heard they view hand-carved stamps with derision -- which makes me wonder if they've seen any stamps by any of the incredibly skilled carvers we have stateside. If all they've seen are the hand-carved stamps that look like they've been hacked out of an eraser with a steak knife, I can appreciate their attitude -- but somebody needs to plant some good carves over there!

There are different ideas in night boxing. One fun one is to make the hunt scary. Don't follow a trail but rather bushwhack through the woods from start to finish. Plant some rubber snakes, rats and spiders along the route, including hanging from branches. Maybe have motion detectors that start things making noise.
Install a burglar alarm in the lid of the box, preferably one that sounds like a rattlesnake.

Hidden in an open field in pouches with reflective tape, everyone uses flashlights. Stagger them out in groups of 4 onto the field with a very a visual map of clues. This is if you're looking for inexpensive and easy way of doing it.
