I like the good ole days when lurking awhile was an expectation, and those who asked basic newbie questions were immediately & snarkily referred to the rtfm file.

You must have missed the :::::gasp::::: big "update". All we have to do now is put two double curly brackets at each end.

To quote a part of this message, use the double curly brackets

I think that was part of the "update". It's hard to keep up.

Oh. And two asterisks make it bold now. see. lol

I didn’t realize reading glasses came that powerful. Think I’ve only seen up 3+ in stores but much more powerful available online. I think I will try this route and since we already have an Ott Light that takes care of that. Thank you everyone for your thoughts!

Nah. I like the newbs.

It's similar to the way folks here post links to tutorials and glossaries, only they really did seem to get irritated. (Man, that was 20+ years ago!) It was a bit of an expectation, really, to read over the basics and to hang for awhile to get a feel for the community norms. Users usually did not like answering the same "starter" questions over and over again, then and now apparently, hence the the FAQ, glossaries, tutorials, etc. which replaced the rtfm files.

It was actually an etiquette thing to feel out the community norms, so I learned to lurk early on. I didn't post on here for over two years. And I was nervous.

I was fortunate enough to be mentored by some pretty awesome boxers long before I approached the wider community.

God. Dial-ups, BBS's, non-graphical interfaces, ftp, rtfm files, that awesome sound your modem made getting connected, getting kicked off when the phone had in incoming call, black & white monitors, being ecstatic when you watch someone type a message to you letter-by-letter in real-time! Does this sound like a "Grandma, tell us about the dinosaurs!" post? Please shoot me.

I don't do postals, but I do look in the Help section when I'm wondering about something.

I also know there is a discussion board for postals where you might find better help than me.

That is why I answered with snarky sarcasm.

We understand you more than you would like to know.

I usually wait for Wassamata U to make the self-congratulatory comment, but yes, we are pretty awesome.

I was planting boxes for my event this morning. Several people had arrived early and I was just a few minutes ahead of the crowd. I got the final box of a series planted, a bonus, and turned around to reach event central. I passed one person on the trail and then a pair of boxers just a few hundred feet away.

Not even 15 minutes later they come up to me, telling me how there was a matchbox car in the final box but no stamp!!

That one person must have been a cacher, seen the footprints and followed them off the trail, traded for the stamp, and cleared out in the 5-10 minutes between me placing it and the first finders!!

Then the only other bonus box in the 60+ stamps hidden went missing.
So that's 2 out of the 60+ stamps went missing all day, both in the first hour, and both bonus boxes.

I've bought an OttLite 2-in-1 LED Magnifier Floor Lamp some time ago. This has greatly helped my carving. We purchased it at JoAnn fabric. It's a bit pricey but if you can catch it on sale or find a coupon it helps. I have large hands it definitely helps for better detailing.

Clue 3 = canopic jars.

Clue 2 correction. Hydrogen was the real clue. It was unintentionally mispelled. This is important to clarify as misspelled words can be an additional layer of clues. Thanks to foxfriend and jampersandj.
