Trip to Indiana
Board: State: Indiana

I am heading to Indiana (Fort Wayne and Muncie) to visit family in the next few days. Does anyone have any tips for boxes? Which ones I should definitely hit? We will be driving from Philadelphia. So I'd be interested in anything else worth stopping for as well.

Thanks,
EMc

Crown Hill Cemetery is loaded, and I'm working on the Canal Walk downtown Indy as hard as I can. Would love to meet up for an exchange, at the very least.

You might want to check out one of my mysteries *another shameless plug*. I'll check some of my older finds and see if the good ones are still active (from 2004-2006). If you manage to hit I-70 anywhere near the state line, let me know. I should be around most of the rest of the week.

Girl, you are a crazy woman! Sending visitors downtown during Super Bowl Week!

Seriously, the state troopers are very visible and in high numbers along I-70 west to Indy. Saw 2 Darwin candidates this evening on my way home. A human hitchhiker in dark attire at 6:23PM just before the Greenfield exit - you know - where everyone jockeys for position off the Interstate.

Ten minutes further east ... an SUV driving in the dark without headlights. I am sorry to say I see this all too frequently.

But WE REALLY DO LIKE VISITORS here and we are very hospitable.

Cookie Cutter, Loopie, and I are just across the border in Greenville, Ohio. We'd love to meet up for exchanges and maybe a little boxing if time allowed.

Once you figure out your schedule let us know if you'd be interested in meeting up somewhere along the way.

And, yes, I agree with Speedsquare, Hoosiers are very hospitable.

EMc:
You've just been invited by the royal family for tea. You don't want to pass up this opportunity. I know I've been there and experienced the hospitality. You should really try to meet all these wonderful "characters" LOL.

Having a little meet up would be great! I will talk to my partner in crime and see if and when we can fit it in. The bulk of our time is going to be spent in Fort Wayne, so I'm not sure when we will be passing through Rt. 70.

My plan for boxing if we didn't have a lot of time was to do it at night but we'll see how it goes.

Speed... Do you have a mystery in the area? I think we figured a few out and they were a ways away. Should I keep on figuring.... ? Lol

If you do make it clear up to Indy, you can box Crown Hill at night ... all you have to do is miss the gate closing time!

Yes, most are pretty far off the path, but there is one that is closer to Muncie, and closer to I-69. Email me if you want extra hints - the reference material can be confusing if you don't pick the right reference.

Sing, sing a song ...

My favorites in Fort Wayne are the ones in the ACRES Land Trust parks (most planted by Hy5)--short hikes through some neat little private land turned public nature preserves on the edges of town. If you're short on time there are two listed at Foster Park--there's probably night lighting there as well, although you'll still need a flashlight to find the boxes. If the weather is nasty there are a bunch in the children's section of the downtown library. "Behind the Reading Tower" is my favorite of the bunch--even though it doesn't have a handcarved stamp. The librarians planted these, and I think they will give you clues to some more not listed if you ask. Enjoy your trip!

Have fun! You and Speedsquare really need to get together and make cube jokes or at the very least, square off in the great LB hunt.

I would agree with the ACRES land trust spots too, but since you said you might have to do boxing at night, I overlooked them. I hope to cover Fort Wayne this spring and summer and get the boxes that have been done in the past 4 years. I think Johnny Appleseed was the last one I found and that's been quite a while ago.
