This Whole Quisp Thing

SO ... with a quisp, my current question is: Is it supposed to be something specifically carved to be a Quisp? OR ... can it be the tiny corner of another stamp you have carved for whatever other purpose? I understand the Quisp Protectors probably won't come after me. Just wondered what is the norm, if there is one, so to speak.

Yup, my Quisps are little stamps I have carved for other purposes, but are something most people won't see.

When I make hikers - I make 4 copies of it for quisps. So 4 of my postal friends will see it prior it being launched as a hiker. Sometimes I use stamps for LTCs or traditionals as well... I've seen 1/4th of someones sig stamps - so it made 4 quisps... I'm still waiting for the other three : )

But it basically just needs to fit under a label somehow... I've even gotten LTCs and shrinkies under my labels : )

I think Goofy Girl sends confetti under her labels : )

I have sent a stamp of confetti as a quisp before but I may have to start sending the little bags of confetti I hand out under those labels

I create some just for quisp (out of the little pieces of rubber i have left over) and other times I use a little spot of a larger stamp to create a quisp..

It is all about rewarding someone for taking the tape off of the package and lightening the postal load and probably the cost as well (every cent counts, except with the new regs, the first 3 ounces). Whether you use a stamp for that purpose, part of a different stamp, a secret message, a patch, a comic strip, a feather...it doesn't matter. It's a surprise reward.

Good to know! Certainly goes with the invisible plbs I've been getting from you lately. I'll keep an eye out for both.

All my quirks are custom carved as quisps but may become hitchers or fleas in the future. Right now, I like them too much to release them in the wild alone, but maybe one day....

The few quisps that I've made were carved as quisps for a certain season or occasion so I could have something to put under an address label (everything I mail to lbers has one - unless they angered me). Once that time passed the quisp takes a new identity as a hitchhiker.

Yeah watch out for MoWizLiz & her address labels. She recycles blog posts from Survivor (or something) into scrap paper to write addresses on. I once got one, had no idea what it was but someone REALLY didn't like so & so! Luckily I have a good sense of humor & didn't mind the swearing it was one heck of a unique quisp! :)

Most of mine have been carved specifically to be a quisp. A few have been used for LTC's as well.

Was it swearing? Or was it the subject matter? (laughing) Yeah...that was funny. Embarrassing, but still funny. Thank heavens it was you that received it.

For everyone's knowledge, Teepsman and I had printed out the interviews at www.realityblurred.com for the Survivors to get an insight before selecting for fantasy league and it was one person I was just not interested in, so never read. Yes, I was recycling paper at the office to make labels, and well, the girl was disclosing personal matters. When LM asked me about it, I had NO idea what she was talking about and thought she was pulling my leg. Nope.

I've read all of them since.

I make mine out of scrap pieces of pink stuff. They are only for quisps. I've made about 20 different ones. I haven't made many lately, but I've run out of new ones for some people. Poor springchick and house of smith a Tuatha De Dannan... no new quisps. Just haven't had the time.

It's short for Shrinky Dinks: http://www.shrinkydinks.com/
But I suspect they're making theirs from stamps, not store-bought kits. : )
We used to make them for Christmas ornaments way back when.

Most of my "quisps" are extra images I have from testing a stamp while I am finishing carving it or trying to figure out what colors I want to stamp it with. or extra shrinky dinks I had from another project ~ like the QUISP that gave the "quisp" its name. but really I will use anything I think is cute or funny. I have a quisp question, too. Do you just make one print of the quisp and hide it for the next person to find... and then they hide it for another person to find? Or do you make many prints of the quisp for many people to find and keep, as if it were an LTC? Did that make sense? I guess, in other words, do you just make one quisp or several?

Quisps remain a great mystery to me!

Tell yourself that a Quisp is simply a gift to the person who takes the tape and label off the package. It's a little treat that they can put in their logbook or send along. That leaves it up to you whether you want to do a unique one (that old shrinky dink) or multi copies (stamped images, for instance).

Hm. Still a mystery!!

I've started with PLBs and LTCs now. I guess I'll just have to hope to get a quisp to call my own one of these days :) And then maybe create a quisp of my own...
