Organizing your outgoing mail

Has anyone found a really good way to organize your mail leaving your house without having to use the post office attendant? Stamps at home work for normal mail but packages like postals and oversized things are a mystery to me. My local post office has odd hours compared to my work hours and I can't seem to get it to mash together to mail things. Someone had a gazet for thickness but how do I figure out weight and price?

Agree! Than you can mail your packages on line, the postman comes to your door to pick them up, and it's actually a few pennies cheaper per package. If I did a lot of packages in a week that's how I'd do it.

you can also mail from a mailing center...there are many in many places, and if you live in a goodly sized city or town, you should be able to mail from there at odd hours of the day. many of them stay open later in the evening.

(think ups store, mailboxes etc, or locally owned similar places.)
yeah, UPS and fed-ex stores usually also sell USPS postage and collect mail for them. though if you leave it there after their collection time, it won't actually go out until the next day...think of it as a mailbox that only gets one pick-up per day.

Larger post offices have a do it yourself machine that is available 24 hours a day. You can search for the post offices the Automated Postal Centers here. Just make sure "Automated Postal Centers®" is selected in the drop down menu.

I prefer to use these even when counter service is open. I don't have to deal with the rude employees!

Thanks for the web sites and suggestions everyone. Sounds like I'm just going to have to be more organized. We only have a teenie, tiny post office here in town and that's what causing some of the problems.

The web sites have been good. I will keep looking around the bigger towns to see if I can find something that works off hours for me. Looks like no easy way to do it. At least now I have hours and phone numbers from the web sites.
