logging attempts?

I have a question...or two...or three....hmm, we'll have to count later... :)

We've been searching for a lot of the "rural" OK boxes. And we are coming up empty. I am almost certain we have the right locations...but I'm unsure how to handle this. The boxes are listed as "active" but I've noticed at least one of the planters hasn't logged into AQ in a couple of years. So what are the chances that these boxes have been "forgotten" and I'm really not the "letterboxing loser" that I feel like sometimes! LOL

When we got home from searching for one today..with no luck, I looked on here and found a comment that says it was destroyed by a wild animal, though the box is still listed as active. (My iphone app doesn't show me the comments...so we scoured the area around where we were sure the box was supposed to be.)

I don't mind the search..even when we don't find it...b/c we are finding some really neat places...although my kids are getting bummed! lol I just feel weird about the possibility of my attempts outnumbering my finds.

On several of them I've "contacted the placer", just asking if there were any updates to the box. I've yet to hear from anyone. I tried to be very clear that I wasn't looking for clues...just wanted to know if I should give it another go. (I had my son up in a tree last week, looking for a box that was planted in a cemetery tree 4 years ago. He had a blast, and I am certain that box was NOT findable! lol) LbNA doesn't specify when the last find/attempt was, so I am at a loss as to what to do. How do I handle this??

Btw, I have my clues written out for my box. (No one is allowed to laugh at them! I will accept constructive criticism, though. Now I just have to figure out how to log it on here. I'm getting there...slowly but surely I'll get this all figured out!! I've turned into a carving maniac. I'll have to plant more boxes, just to keep from being lost underneath stamps!)

We've had that same problem here in Nebraska with the boxes listed on LbNA. My daughter and I have simply decided to plant a new box for every box we are unable to find. Good luck and hopefully you will have better luck with the boxes posted on AQ.

Happy Days and Compass Points no longer box, or that I know of, and many of their boxes have gone missing. So, with that I will ask, was it some of theirs you were looking for? They haven't logged in in foreverrrrr...so, you will not get an answer, unfortunately...it doesn't hurt to look, tho, never know you might just stumble on one that was not put back where it belonged. Kind of doubt it after this long of time, but......like you said, you had fun hunting them anyway...that goes for any boxes out there. It pays to look at last found remarks and such BEFORE going..and also check out LBNA for the same boxes, they could or not have different last found dates..

I will say that I intend on looking for one of theirs if I ever get back to Keystone Lake, there is one on the way there...if its still viable...may be a wild goose chase, but I won't care if I am free to do what I want on that trip, lots of time, that is...I've never been to the state park it was in before...

If, sure is a big word....;-)

That is a very good idea, make lemonade...

LBNS does list attempts. Sign-in. Click the green flag beside the box. Voila.

I found one of theirs, not expecting a response and got one. of course that was awhile back.

Thank you. I had found that I can log it...but can I see where others have as well? Is there a way to see what the last find/attempt date was for a particular box??

If the planter has it set to hide attempts and/or finds, you won't see anything including your own find by clicking on the green flag. If the box was by Happy Days, I think they hid all finds and attempts. Most of theirs are also listed on AQ and you can see finds and attempts there.

Which ones....let me see if I can remember all the names.

Today we looked for Sac and Fox...a Checotah box, by happydays.
Last week we looked for

Oklahoma Astronauts - William Reid Pogue, an Okemah box, by happydays. (this one took a bit of stealth...the clues had the exits/highways off a little.)

Also Elegant Egret, an Okemah box that is adoptable. I'm not convinced that this one isn't buried. The clues mentioned that it was under decorative rocks...and it looked to us that top soil now covers the decorative rock. We dug around a bit..and found some rocks..but the stickers that found our fingers kept us for doing too much. If it is there..it is now buried, with little goathead stickers standing guard. lol

Several years ago we searched for Kickapoo, Junior, Oklahoma Indian Nations Series, the Seminole box, by happy days. I contacted them after this attempt as well. I have family there and I was fairly certain that box had been washed away in a crazy flood in that town. It had been bad, there had even been a death due to the water in that particular area.

And those don't include the Tulsa area boxes I've looked for and can't find. lol The Bixby Boys, The Three Bridges and a couple of the Braddocks boxes in BA. lol

Maybe this is why I can't keep my daughter and my husband enthusiastic...I have a knack for NOT finding boxes. hehe

Thanks, Dizzy. I looked at what happy days has listed...out of the boxes I've attempted..only one was listed..as still active...and it is the one someone else commented was destroyed. As for the others....I guess I'll never know. lol

That's a very good system. I'll try it.
