Postal ring logbook question

I am putting together the logbook for my first postal ring and I am wondering...

Do I make one page per participant? Or two facing pages?

Or does it matter?

(Impatient) Fluffy Cow who posted this question in the tracker notes but was hoping for a quicker answer...

And yes, I just noticed my question is essentially: Does size matter?

As always, your box – your rules. What you need to think about is, will you want to allow extra sign-ins, or will you want to send it out as a single when it returns from this ring? Do you want to remake the log book to send out again? If not then you will at least want a few extra pages to allow for these things. If that’s what YOU want. I have seen logs that state you have one page to use, so if you have some one else who wants to log in they must keep on your page. I have also seen where they state to only log on right facing page ( usually because the pages are light weight and this will keep images from bleeding though the page.) So it’s really up to you.

Does size matter?

It's all in what you do with it. Smaller might move along faster, but bigger can get more logs. Do you plan to send it out after as a single? If so, make a bigger logbook. If not than just make it big enough for the ring.

But, try to keep it light, unless there is an artistic reason for using a heavy bound logbook, for instance.

One page per person seems to be enough, unless you're asking for the participants to decorate a spread or write a story in the book. I try to write log-in instructions on the book. I like to have each person stamp in on their own page but invariably somewhere along the line several people will stamp the same one leaving a page empty in my book. I've started creating the books just big enough for the ring so I prefer to have it full.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Funny part is that it finally occurred to me to make a second book for myself to stamp in the ones that come to me!! I'll figure it all out soon...

Another consideration is how heavy your paper is. If you're using regular paper, you'll want to have enough pages that people only need to stamp on the front side. If you're using thicker cardstock, then people can stamp on the front and back of each page, so you need half as many pages.

One other thought...if you are planning to plant the stamp after it returns, you could always make a log book with lots of pages and a good size for a traditional plant so it can be re-used for planting.
