how old is Super S and Foxy Girl?

SS just turned 10 this month, and FG is 7. When they first started carving, I wouldn't let them carve out the image...they had to carve around it. I'm so glad I did that, because now they both prefer that method naturally.
Thanks for the kind words!

We had such a great time!! I can't imagine a better first gathering for us! Thank you Ponder so much for hosting such a wonderful event!

It was a blur at times with all the exchanges going on -- but great fun and I'm so happy to have met everyone and put faces together with trailnames! We loved seeing all the beautiful sig stamps -- and thanks goes out to MamaWolf and Electric for the carving demos! Maybe I'll put give the #6 a break and actually put some other tools to use now!

Everyone was friendly and welcoming -- thank you -- what a great group of boxers... we may be spoiled on events now! We enjoyed the boxes, the food, and all the stories! You guys really know how to cootie someone properly, lol! We thought maybe we'd get one or two... but all the little helpers really keep those bugs jumping! We had quite an infestation :)

The lake was beautiful and we loved the scenery -- the kids especially enjoyed the creek at the bridge (from the lower parking lot). It was a great place to cool off and do a little exploring. We saw lots of wildlife while hunting those boxes. I'll post some pictures once we get home.

I came back to the hotel room and *crashed*... zonked out asleep for a huge nap which is very unusual for me. I guess that's just how awesome the day was -- I second the motion for an annual event!

Tomorrow we're going to the Reynolda Village area and then to the Children's Museum before we head home -- and we will definitely be back for more weekend roadtrips :) We are full of great ideas to take home, thanks again for a truly wonderful time!

And thankfully I got an exchange with her BEFORE she knew who I was because the reaction after she looked at my stamp was something like, "You are Mama Wolf? You aren't as scary as I thought."

Has someone been telling the newbies I have horns coming out of my head or something??

And speaking of scary, Charlie was making me jump all day when ever he was lurky behind me. And when he touched me on the back, I was frantically trying to swipe off imaginary signs!! I tell you, that whole death thing before really can make a person nervous!

I just wanted to jump in here real quick before hitting the road and let everyone know, especially Ponder, how much I enjoyed the event yesterday. I can't remember having that much fun in a very long time. The new friends I met were fantastic. The food tremendous. The stamps unbelievable (where the heck did all those cooties come from???).

Thanks for such a tremendous experience. I learned a lot from Mama Wolf and EM watching them carve and observing their carving techniques and I didn't even push them for the PTs, shame on me.

Driving home with a big smile across my face and the memory of a great weekend.

Thank you Ponder for a wonderful day! No longer "in the background" - you're famous now;-)

We came unprepared and missed out on so many great PTs but we will catch 'em next time, we promise! Sadly, we also missed meeting a few folks but we will put you at the top of the list for the next event!

Happy trails to all and hope to see you again very soon!!

We almost missed exchanging with you. Glad we ran across you guys at the dam. Too bad we all got locked in and had to walk an extra mile. But was nice talking with you. Hope to see you again soon on the trail.

OMG!! It's more than one VA person spreading the rumors up there!!

They may be quiet on the boards but they are apparently spreading the misinformation privately!! Sneaky VA folks.

Agreed. I wish I could have gone as well. I swear I will make it to an event one day. I'll have to bribe a babysitter who DOESN'T want to learn how to letterbox to watch the kids, so I can drag my hot husband. He's Asian, he'll bring the camera

Too bad we all got locked in and had to walk an extra mile.

So did they really lock that gate at 5:30? They are pretty strict!!

We almost got locked in the whole park - "almost" as in the man was holding the gate and shut it behind us as we left. And I swear there were still people there! There was a huge bunch of people (family gathering?) still at the picnic tables and what not at the gravel parking lot. I'm pretty sure they didn't leave before us.....

We were looking for the last box on that trail (Sati's Human's Pengie box) and heard the horn - Oh crap, I think. I made the kids leave, though Eli is still aggravated at me for leaving and not getting the box (so sorry, Satis' Human, I was upset too!!). We ran most of the way back - and those of you that have met me, know that I don't run many places...... We just BARELY made it - whew! So Eli wasn't as mad about the box when I explained exactly how aggravated Dad the Muggle Fox would have been had we got locked in.

At least there is a big sign with a phone number if you get locked in - apparently it happens regularly!!

But we had a blast at the event - the kids had a great time hiking and playing in that creek too! I too vote for a annual event, though next time I WILL REMEMBER when closing time is!!!

And Anna "donated" our cooties to the very active cootie-ers, so we came home with many less than we got there with (she says, not actually having unpacked her backpack and box yet..... ;-)).

Yes they locked the gate by the dam @ 5:00. I thought the sign said 7:00... meaning 30 mintues before the MAIN gate closed... LOL oh well next time I too will pay more attention to the times.

Good to see you again yesterday.

Yep - they locked the gate at 5pm. Luckily, we ran into some bikers who told us how to go around. Then we told oceanwinds, et al, so they didn't freak like we did when we got to the top!

Mama Flory was about to climb over when they told us there was another exit. That would have been fine, but Mouse Nanny, Hopeinnc and I agreed we would have NOT made it over!

Well, I knew the dam gate locked at 5pm but the way around it was back to my car anyway so no big deal. I heard the horn and left at 7:10 and there were a TON of people even at the shelter and playground.

It seems like there was parking outside of the gates that people were using. It was like 2 parking areas locked but a farther out one didn't. And then there was parking in the neighborhoods on the other side and Linville Rd. Those people just seemed to be taking bikes in.

It was weird. I have no idea why they even have a 5:00 gate at the dam when you can just walk around it. And locking people out of only 2 parking areas didn't really seem to do anything at all. Everyone else seemed to know all the other access points and just ignored the "closing".

Exactly!!!!

The one thing that got me freaked out was the guy riding his bike at about 60 miles an hour back to the parking lot after we heard the first horn. I thought - oh crap, he KNOWS and is afraid! So after we were almost 3/4 the way there, we passed him again, but he was going back the OTHER way at a more leisurely pace. What the heck?

Then as we were leaving, I saw the OTHER parking lot and there were several cars with bike racks there. So he was obviously moving his car. Lots of daylight left, especially for biking.

I figured the strict closing time and gates had more to do with lake access than anything - those two parking lots easily access the lake, while the other one doesn't. Though if you were really motivated, you could certainly carry a canoe or kayak around....

The gate locking at 5:00 - still ain't figured that one out!!! And it's a walk through gate - it wasn't like they were locking cars out!

It wasn't a big deal to me either. But there were others in my group.
Problem was we were parked at the gate so had to walk ALL the way around while looking at the car. LOL

Seems to me the dam gate was a bit much as the walk around took you longer and you could have already left the park. I'm sure they have their reasons. We rode over to the Linville Rd area and we noticed over at the Linville Rd that people were still going into the park.

I was told in no uncertain terms there were fangs hiding under that charming grin ;) The horns are news to me, but I will take note (scribbling this down right now...)

And darn-it... I didn't get to solemn swear that I'm up to no good, but I *promise* I am!!

I know I'm late, but we're having computer problems at home again (translated: the son has messed up again), so I had to wait til this morning. Saturday was awesome! I was later getting there, so missed out on exchanging alot, but enjoyed meeting the folks I met. And the trails were fantastic! A wonderful park and wonderful time. Thanks for all your hard work, Ponder. We will definitely be back in the area (since CDQ is at Salem all summer), so I will be in touch!

The news is that I DON'T have them! Now see how this happens? Folks get things twisted quick on this board!

I also told hopeinnc that I'll help with the groceries and somehow that got translated into sending me the bill for the shelter!

Doesn't anyone have an attention span long enough on this board to read ALL of the words in a post??!!

First off, I tell everyone that I have ADD, it's not a secret! Why do you think my idea of exchanging is to lay my stamp and logbook on a table and walk away? Silly wolf!

Secondly, I'm not sending you a bill for the shelter. I'm sending you a bill for groceries, tent rental, cooking fees, decision making, etc. Who isn't paying attention?

Just thought I'd post a little "FYI"................
For those who were not able to get to all the boxes at the event Saturday, you might want to check your clues. There were a few - um - errors - in tree identification and some clarifications needed on another clue...........I have corrected the trees based on what I was told by my fellow boxers for "Bear in the Woods" and "Peacock".........and tweeked the other clue (Grasshopper)...........Hope this helps!!!
