(peers in at the layers of dust and asbestos laden paint chips on the coffeemaker. She feeds a buck into the soda machine, buys anything with caffeine, then pulls back the dropcloth on the second hand couch and plops down with a yawn)

Well, I'm back. School starts on September the 8th, but superintendent's day is Tuesday. The majority of the reconstruction stuff they're constantly doing on my school is pretty well done...looks like security swipe card systems are the flavor of the month. I'm putting up posters and stuff in my newly painted room (compromised with my principal to paint it a slightly lighter shade of blue), and I'm getting 5th grade textbooks and TE's.

What's new with you folks below the Mason-Dixon line and West of the Might Mississippi? School going okay?

We've been in school for three weeks now in GA. We've also taken off 2 of our 3 furlough days. No new textbooks for us this year.

Some counties are even thinking of making the school day a bit longer (10 min.) which would reduce the number of days students would attend. It's amazing how much money that will save.

Otherwise, things are about the same.

I don't really count as "faculty" since I'm a preschool teaching assistant - but I'm in great sympathy with all teachers ;-))

I have two princesses in my class - since we have a no tolerance policy for princess behavior, that will prove to be interesting at the year progresses. Also this little boy who's the most energetic 3 year old I've ever seen - he's constantly on GO! Very amusing for about 20 minutes, then you are exhausted, only he's not. Everything is an amazing revelation to him:

HEY EVERYONE, IT'S SNACK TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GUESS WHAT, WE ARE HAVING ANIMAL CRACKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! COME ON EVERYONE, COME TO THE TABLE AND HAVE SNACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It will be interesting to see how long I last - lol!!!

Like you, I'm headed back tomorrow and kids come on the 8th. I have a staff meeting from 8-12. Please, somebody tell me, what can we possibly discuss for 4 hours? No, it's not our "staff training;" that's all day Wed. Ugh!

It only gets to be fun when the kids show up; right now it just "stinks a big one!"

I have been back since July 29. I have had to go to district meetings and miss class time at least one day per week for the last 4 weeks. I have another one tomorrow.........3 hours long......and I can promise you it will not be anything that needs to be discussed for 3 hours! Good luck on your preplanning!

Been at it since July 29th and it has been strange.....very strange. We have the furlough days of course....on planning days. The first was the day before school started........great day to take a day off right? After all, who needs to be in their classroom the day before school starts?

Lots of meetings.............even now....weeks after we have been in school.......meetings which take me out of the classroom.

I teach sped and kids who moved out of district over the summer were not placed in new schools, were bussed to my classroom, had to be moved after school started. I started out with 7, am down to 4, and will get 2 new students by the end of the week. SOOOOO....even though I have been in school since July 29.....it appears that the real classroom work will still begin after Labor Day!

STRANGE, STRANGE beginning!

Ahh, sitting here in a quiet clean room waiting for the new year to start! 1st day with the students is today! My homeroom will be here in 15 minutes. It's so nice to get a fresh start every year isn't it? Imagine all the people whose job just keeps going ang going doing the same thing day after day year after year. We get a fresh start every september, I love it! Clean shiny floor, desks with no writing on them, new supplies, new posters, new bulletin board designs, new schedule - here we go! Snowflake

You optimist. Fresh start, ha!

You mean we get to START OVER again every year. Sigh. Wouldn't it be nice to track with a group and watch them grow? I always have to remind myself..don't yell..THIS group doesn't know...

It's OK. YOU mean students..*I* mean teachers :)
