Suspicious postal worker

My husband had to mail off 3 postal boxes yesterday. When he came with 3 packages all with different points of origin, different return address labels, the postal worker then looked at my husband and said, "You're not a terrorist, are you?"

My husband was confused. The postal worker explained that Ted Kozinski used to mail bombs from different points of origin so that no one could track them. I guess he didn't look any less suspiciously at my husband as he attempted to stumble through an explanation of letterboxing. I think he opted to leave out hiding boxes in the woods after that...

You know, that really seems silly that the postal worker asked "Are you a Terrorist?" How on earth would a real terrorist answer that???

That's funny. I don't even try to explain to the ladies behind the PO counter about letterboxing. Everyone always gives me this are you crazy look or "what's the point" look. I told them a while back that it is like a craft exchange group. we all share or admire each others art work and then send it along for the next person but we keep the artist return address on there in case it ever gets lost or something happens to the new recipient.

oh, oh.... I got FOUR in the mail yesterday! Now I am wondering if I should wander from town to town and mail them at different post offices today! (laughing)

I just get asked to bring my logbook so they can see the stamps I'm mailing out. My 1st mailing was a question and answer session but the postal worker is someone I went to school with and our sons are in the same class! LOL! Small towns, gotta love'em!

I had one older man at the PO look at my packages and say "Cam of 3Ms" in a questioning way. I wonder what looks people get when they send packages to Weyrwoman.

I send to MoonBunny and Tree Hugger. Yes, I have some strange looks from people at the post office. Eventually, they will all know the letterboxing story and will recognize me when I come with packages.

I wonder if one day all post office employees will learn of postal letterboxes as part of their training. Who knows??

Hey... the way I look at it... we are some of the people that are supporting the postal service! In this day of e-mail and cell phones... they should be glad to see us coming!!!

Actually, we luck out by using the automated postal machine at our PO. You can send out stuff without having to even go to the counter, which is perfect for us 'cause we can never make it there before closing. Pretty soon, I'm just going to invest in doing that stuff at home (print up the labels and such)...eliminates the whole aspect of frightening our local postal workers! :-)

BEWARE... if you use the automated machines... and are putting a delivery confirmation on your postals... I hate to tell you that the DC's are NOT scanned unless you mail them at the window. So... If you use the automated window... don't pay for or expect a delivery confirmation.

But, I also have to admit that the US Postal Service has not failed me so far...so the DC is probably not too important. Lets face it, we are sending RUBBER STAMPS... not jewelry here! I would hate to lose one of my stamps, but I always keep the original art work and they can all be reproduced! (and I have reproduced lost work from regular letterboxes that have gone missing but never a postal, so far!!!).

When people join a ring or sign up to receive a single plb, they are saying they will be responsible enough to take care of the plb(s) that they receive. These stamps and logbooks were created by other people. You might not care if you have to re-carve your own plb, but think how you would feel if you didnt do everything you could to make sure that someone else's plb arrived safely. I say this because it HAS happened to me. It feels AWFUL. I would bet that most people agree that having one get "lost" on your watch, feels 5x worse than finding out one of your own is "stuck" in a black hole or lost within the postal system.

There are some stamps i have created that i consider irreplaceable. Some of my favorite logbooks that i deeply cherish that have been around a ring, have been sent out as individual PLBS in blind faith so that others may enjoy them, are irreplaceable.
It's so ironic that the things that mean the most to some people arent worth two cents postal insurance.

3M's... You are absolutely right! What I started out doing was to remind people that delivery confirmations need to be scanned at the windows....so, not to use the automated ones. Why I digressed I will chalk up to fatigue! I actually have every delivery confirmation in a folder for every postal I have sent out and will continue to do so. My apologies... of course these wonderful stamps and logs ARE jewels.

Awwww... I was just suffering from foot in mouth disease last night!

I always use the kiosk to mail my packages. It avoids the funny looks and beats the lines.

I just checked a few of the DC#s on packages I mailed that way (from two different post offices in my area), and they were reported as delivered to the appropriate cities. I am assuming that means that they were scanned even though I did use the kiosk.

Do you think the problem with some DC packages not being scanned is a local one rather than a widespread issue?

Thanks,
Booknut

Must be...I've never had any problem with the ones we've sent, either.

Perhaps.... here in CT, the postal worker at the desk (is that the current politically correct term?) told me that the kiosk ones are not scanned! So, I go to the window and have made some friends behind the desk! Perhaps this is a sign that I am involved in too many postals? NAH!

It seems ... odd ... to me that the post office would let people pay money for a service that they don't actually perform (scanning kiosk-sold delivery confirmation) and then admit to it. I dunno ... something about this just doesn't sound right.
